Default List of CA Transferring Ammo Vendors

I have seen several posts here and elsewhere about some gun stores who either wouldn't do transfers or weren't ammo vendors.

I think we need a list of FFLs and Ammo Vendors who will do transfers and their costs, one created by the members from actual transactions in their local area.

So, if you've made a private ammo sale or purchase through an FL or Ammo Vendor post there name, location and rates in this thread and I'll add them to this post in a list.

RifleGear Fountain Valley

Ammunition Transfer Fees

Effective immediately, RifleGear will have the following ammunition vendor fee schedule for ammunition transfers. This fee does not apply to the ammunition available for sale in our store.

Private Party Ammunition Transfer Fee
$5 and no sales tax due.
Both parties must be present to conduct a Private Party Ammunition Transfer.

Ammunition Order Transfer Fee
Invoiced amount up to $400 = $20
Invoiced amount over $400 = 5% of invoiced amount

Storage fees for Vendor Transferred Ammunition Received:
Up to 30 days = Free
31 – 60 days = $50 additional fee
61 – 90 days = $100.00 additional fee

Ammunition left for more than 90 days will be considered abandoned.

CA Sales Tax must be collected on the full invoiced amount of the ammunition shipment
All ammunition shipments received MUST have an original invoice with shipment so the proper sales tax can be collected.

*Ammunition will only be released to the customer listed on the invoice.
*All fees are non-refundable.
*All terms and fees subject to change at the sole discretion of RifleGear.

Freedommunitions.com has a preferred dealer list. Go to their website and type in your zip code to find the closest one to you. The closest one in sfv is Redstone in burbank.

Elite Armory in Castro Valley

From Gabe - who was super friendly and helpful:

"We do accept online ammo transfers. The fee is 10% of you invoice amount with a minimum fee of $35 and 10 case max. "

Currently [as of 3/9/2018] - Elite does not do PPT ammo transfers. I was the first to ask, so they may develop a protocol if a few of you ask as well.

There is mass confusion right now. I called Left Coast today based on above post. They had no idea there was any restriction on PPT or have a process for it. The above must have been in reference to internet based sales as that is the only thing they talked about. Said they would have to look into the other.

Seems to me that there needs to be very distinct info posted or a split for PPT dealers vs Tranfer dealers. PPT seems very very very rare.

Based on the number of posts of folks selling and/or over limit, I guess most are simply not complying. Whether for principal or lack of dealer support to allow it. Totally blows. Of course CA could give two squirts, all they care about is getting the tax and having someone collect it for them.

Hello - I was posting for both online transfers and PPT.

As far as I know, for FFL's accepting ammo orders from out of state, they can charge whatever they want (I could be wrong) and/or CA taxes. Some places only charge tax, others charge taxes + a % + a fee (which sucks).

For PPTs I THINK you are right, $5 fee and there is no special licence or form or anything. Technically if they have an FLL01, they can do a PPT ammo x-fer.

But, as someone said, there is mass confusion around this.

[Mod - feel free to delete this as it isn't an entry about an FLL location, I hope this thread doesn't get clogged up with discussion, as I think many of us just want a list to consult. Maybe the top post can be an ongoing list someone builds out as others inform the thread of what they learn?]

Try to find an ammo vendor or ffl that does ppt ftf transfers of ammo. I tried and oaktree does not the gun shop in lancaster does not. On ADDAX website they say 5 buck ftf. I went there and met ammo seller from Lancaster .Addax said they cannot get an answer or memo to detail how to do it. He said go ahead and transfer in shop in parking lot I have no way to log it, document it. Do what you like so we did transfer in shop and ADDAx said I am not charging a fee for something I have no legal info on. We tried to do the right thing and could not.

Anyone have any information in the Corona area?

Follow up - I called three vendors, Turners, Annie’s Get your Gun and the Shootist in Murrieta. The bottom line is that they don’t even know how to do a PPT for ammo. The state has given them no guidance on how to comply. The guy I talked to at Turners was a store manager. I didn’t sense any duplicity in the answers I got, just honest ignorance.

FYI

You can order ammo online and have it legally shipped to your home. Just like the old days.
TargetSportsUSA is who I recommend after you get your C&R license.

A good resource is the dealer list (and search) on the targetsportusa website. Not only is Targetsportusa.com a great vendor and easy to order from, but their dealers marked with "Elite Dealer" star will accept orders from them with no fee to you (they will still charge tax though). Even if you don't order from targetsportusa, it's good to look at their dealer list, give some close ffls a call and see what their process is for ordering ammo from your favorite vendor.
