Need help looking for a NK SKS
Hello,
I’d like to find a North Korean SKS. I’ve always wanted one as my grandfather was North Korean. I have checked online auctions, but I have not been able to find one. Does anyone know of one for sale? I’m looking for an all numbers matching in very good condition. Thanks, Dan |

That's a very tall order. North Korean SKS's are about as rare as they come. Check Morphy's or Rock Island Auction, they put some up for auction every once in a while. But expect to pay top dollar.

It's NorK, east German, and north Vietnamese are the rarest. Albanian is rare. But not on the same tier as them. Sent from my SM-N986U1 using Tapatalk |

German SKS Model Karbiner S:
The Year of manufacture is stamped into the left side of the receiver in front of the serial number along with the stylized sunburst logo. The butt stock has a slot for a sling similar to the slot in a K98 Mauser and there is no provision for a cleaning rod. Very few were imported into the U.S. and, Michael Kreca, our writer on Yugoslavia has discovered why. In 1991, Germany once again recognized Croatia's declaration of "independence" from a dissolving Yugoslavia, much like it had done 50 years before. In fact, at that time, the most popular song in Croatia was "Danke, Danke Deutschland" (Thank you, Thank you, Germany.) As part of this process, Germany, once again attempting to gain influence in the Balkans via the willing Croats, over the next three years gave Croatia nearly all of the former German People's Army's (East German military) huge stocks of existing weaponry ranging from Kar. Ss and MPi-Ks (AK-47s) to Mi-8 attack helicopters and 130mm howitzers as well as various types of MiG warplanes. |

NK,NVA, EG, all unicorns. I'd love to say Albanians are super rare but I didn't have much trouble finding two that were very nice and matching. Not cheap though.
There are a bunch of oddball Chicoms that are rare and collectible too. They were put togethers for importation but still neat. I don't want to upset mods by linking to it, but there is currently an East German SKS on GB listed for a cool $10,000. After all these years, the SKS is still the bread and butter of my meager milsurp collection. The fact that 7.62x39 wolf can still be found at sort of reasonable prices makes me love them even more. |

This is true. The SKS tends to multiply due to the numerous variants, relative affordability, and simple, robust, reliable characteristics. I transitioned from “accumulation” phase to “enjoy what I have” phase. I still wouldn’t turn down a good deal on another one if it was in front of me.

The North Korean's are uber rare. I've never seen one in person.
I was able to get a North Vietnamese SKS around ten years ago. It has some battlefield damage and it's original sling. Rough shape, but original.

OP -
They are out there - Not easy to find nor reasonably priced by any means - This one have been refinished to hide the heavy pitting - The stock have been refinished also - Slightly sanded - It's unfortunate as we who collect bring back cherished them for the original condition - I feel the price is just ok given the condition - Quote:

This is a nice one -
Coming out of a huge collection - The two holes on the side of the receiver is not for an optic but it's for grenade launching sight - Quote:

This website seems to have pretty much everything known about every SKS variant there is so you can compare features and markings if you find one to make sure you aren’t getting scammed.
