No warranty since off-roster in CA.
Ruger won't return the gun to CA since the chassis with serial number has to be replaced and you can't DROS the new one to you. If the chassis is broken the gun is toast unless you can find somebody to weld it back together. If you send it back to Ruger, they might help you out towards a LCR revolver or LC380 pistol as a CA legal replacement. Do you know what caused it to break? Normal firing or did something else happen?

Call Ruger.

Best you can hope for is a LCR or LC380CA as replacement. But you can forget getting the LCP fixed or direct replaced.
Would love to see the damage and hear the story... |

Lots of LCP cracked frames. Do you have a friend out of state who could mail it in for you? You'd still have an LCP but couldn't add it to your registered guns. Ruger will offer you credit toward a new gun - but it's not much. They also won't return your original gun to you if they deem it unsafe.

That’s the “frame insert” for the pistol. It looks like part of the casting broke off. Call Ruger. They will want the parts back for analysis just in case this is a flaw which might occur in other guns. I’m sure they’ll be happy to provide a replacement.

It will be interesting to see what they do offer though. Keep us updated OP! |

Yup, the insert has the serial number.
Same for Kel-Tec, Sig and others of similar construction. The LCP is not on the CA Roster, there is no On-Roster version of the Ruger LCP, so Ruger will not give or sell you a replacement LCP. They may give you credit towards another CA legal gun.

However, there are new (CA legal) LC380s on roster. A little larger, but acceptable. And for $300, you can convert it to 9mm. Quote:

Faris...I’m assuming you called Ruger. What did they say, and did they cover the shipping? Thanks.

Did Ruger ask if you are exempt or how you got it ?
If not, they'll take care of it I would hope.

From experience, they will look at it and if it's deemed unrepairable, they will offer you something that IS on roster, and comparable in price.
I had an off roster I sent in, they felt it wasn't repairable, I had them tear it down completely (I tried to get it apart and wasn't getting anywhere with the trigger group) and send it back in ziplock baggies, I was able to figure our what caused the problem and remedied it myself, actually runs better than my other samples of that model.... I "got lucky" and learned a little more about "smithing" in the process. In your case, it sure looks like a broken casting that is integral to the frame (with the serial #), and that is not going to be "repairable", so be prepared to acquire something else in the Ruger lineup that IS on roster. Just a little heads up from someone who has been down that road, they can't replace a frame and send it to you since you cannot DROS the new serial # on an off roster firearm. Probably looking at a LC380 would be my best guess, or something in the LCR/LCRX lineup - they were very fair in what I was offered, I just didn't like the revolver option, and I figured I could fix the original gun once I had pile of parts instead of an assembly! Your situation is there's an "extra" part that's supposed to be attached permanently and no longer is.... |

Hmmm, that's an interesting idea. Not sure at what point serial numbers are added or if it would be practical to "transfer" the serial # by destroying the original and serializing an identical part, but it would seem to be a novel "solution" if the manufacturer could accommodate for us poor peons stuck behind enemy lines!
