I was in San Diego last week. At San Diego zoo there were no magnetrons, bag search or wands. At the Scripps Aquarium in La Jolla, same thing. Balboa Park Museums we went to, I carried there as well. No issues. My daughter informed me later that she saw a sign at the zoo prohibiting weapons, I didn't notice. Concealed means concealed.

Planning on visiting Sea World on Friday. Anyone visit it recently and can report if there are security screenings? Only thing I found were articles dated late 2016 stating they are beefing up security.

SEA WORLD: i went just last Sunday and no metal detectors. Only searching they do is ask you to open any bags anD they insert a large stick inside and fish around for a few seconds - THAT'S IT.

Well that's effective

So as long as I don't have my sidearm in my man purse I should be good.

Last time I was at that zoo a random 5 y.o. kid ran up and gave me a headbutt. Unfortunately he hit dead center on my iron, holstered in Kydex. Left a mark on his forehead. Poor little booger.

I was there last week. Couple young Kids checking bags. Was there about 9:30/9:45 park opens at 10:00am. I had a Vanquest 31 which has a lot of compartments. They just watched me open up one and let me go. No signage. After that I was good to go.

Seaworld has an SDPD cop with a very sloppy drop holster scoping people out at the entrance.

Zoo has nothing.

Sarafi Park has nothing.

The zoo has absolutely nothing in place...I really don't like seeing this! Thanked a SDPD officer standing on the inside of the entry gate for being there, he said it was their first time at the zoo due to the 4th of July weekends. But we all know how effective this would be...

The Safari Park had SDPD at the gate as well, which I found odd due to the fact they are WAY outside the city, in fact in a different city. Must have some contract with SDPD.

SDPD's patrolling range is pretty extensive and well beyond San Diego City proper. I'm not sure what determines if the PD will take an area vs the Sheriff's Dept. But the map below show's you where the PD is at.

Perhaps they removed it due to the long lines it was causing. I posted that while standing in line for the metal detectors. Have not been back since.

Make sure to check for the signs to see if they prohibit firearms. I hate gun free zones as much as any 2A supporter, but your on their private property. It’s a tough decision and I would never tell anyone what to do, I don’t fear law abiding CCW holders. I would hate to see a CCW lose their 2A rights because they were caught on private property that prohibits firearms. Every CCW that has their rights taken is one less person that could potentially protect my family or myself.

This might help:

SeaWorld:

Quote:
What items are prohibited at SeaWorld?
In order to maintain a safe environment for all SeaWorld guests and ambassadors, the following items are prohibited at SeaWorld. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Weapons of any kind or objects that appear to be weapons (to include self-defense sprays, pocket knives, toy guns, squirt guns, water blasters, etc.);
I did not find anything similar for either the Zoo or Balboa Park

Why would a CCW holder lose their 2A rights for that? Does SD have an ordinance making it illegal to carry where posted? My IA allows CCW anywhere lawful.

A felony city ordinance, no less had no idea those existed...

/Sarcasm

Unless there is a STATE or FEDERAL law that specifically prohibits carry in a specific place, then you will not lose your 2a rights for carrying where there is a sign. Worst case scenario is you get caught and reported to your IA and they revoke your permit, IF they have a policy prohibiting carrying where prohibited by signage (many don't). Otherwise, no law is broken unless you refuse to leave, in which case you'd be breaking trespassing laws, not carry laws.

Just came back from the zoo, super crowded on Saturday, carried my G19 using Tier1 Axis Slim holsters.
I looked for no gun signs at the entrance but didn’t see any. No police presence inside the zoo either.

SD Zoo Safari Park on Saturday, and no detectors, no signs. Did see a couple SD PD walking through, but I believe there was something specific they were heading to.

We go there weekly and the SDPD has been stationed at the gate for the last couple months, not sure what they're doing but it's odd seeing SDPD way up here.

Either way CCW is GTG there. The Safari Park security uses my GC for practice every other month or so. Funny to see their targets.
