Default What do you think is the most important thing about a flashlight

3 Things to think about:
1. Battery & Runtime
2. Output/lumens
3. Budget

What is the first thing you look for when buying a flashlight?

Specific to olight criticism, battery constant lumens runtime. Claiming 1000 lumens is deceiving for example when it only lasts for 60 seconds. I expect more like petzl or black diamond with runtimes accurate by power output.

This is something we need to improve. Thank you for your advice.

Actually what is most important to me is a flashlight which works even after sitting for months.

Nothing worse than grabbing a flashlight .....[ I need light Now ]
And it won't work ! ......needs another wack to get working

We've all had a flashlight like that , Right
And it's a pisser .......

You count on and expect your firearm to work every time ...

I Expect nothing less with the ' torch ' I use

Most important:
Make sure it's not LED.
They will stop working before end of battery.
A regular bulb will work until no electricity is present.

What? LED’s are the absolute best. They, along with the electronics behind them will extract every bit of light from the bulb. Non-LED bulbs use mech more power (that means it won’t last as long) plus they fade with time.

Hands-down the most important thing about a light source when you really need it at night or in a dark area is the ability to use it hands-free.

If you spend any time in areas where people actually have to be out at night or be in a dark place working for any length of time ( like a coal mine, the woods or dark tunnels) they almost always have moved away from flashlights and gone to a headlamp style lights. There's so many things you cannot do unless you have two hands. Everything from shooting a long gun to writing on a piece of paper while holding a clipboard and a million things in between.

Having the ability to use both your hands to solve the problems/ work in the dark or just navigate through the woods while you're carrying something is priceless.

Personally, I like the lightweight rechargeable headlamps that have a click type angle adjustment, so that if you get tired of wearing it around your head ( it happens after while, trust me) you can open up the headband a bit, flip the light over and wear it around your neck and use the click type angle adjustability to shine the light in front of you as you walk. Although that with that method you lose the ability to light up things with a quick turn of your head it's also a nice positive if you're walking with someone and you occasionally looking at each other because then you don't make your friend night blind, just by looking at them with your face / headlamp.

Please pass all that information up to Olight. I'm sure they'll think it's worth at least one of their lower-priced headlamps for free, or as they like to call it " on sale ", which is real close to free.

The whole world needs to make the jump to headlamps. How's that for a big new customer base?

But to give you my opinion on your original question...

1. Battery & Runtime... the battery should be lightweight so you can wear it on your head or keep it in your pocket easily, preferably rechargeable and replaceable if possible because who needs to keep replacing regular batteries all the time.
Run time should be as close to as the manufacturer can get to about 12 hours that allows you to get through dawn to dusk, even if it's at a lower/ lowest setting than the brightest the light is capable of.

2. Output/lumens... adjustability is best with a super bright, medium bright and low light being the minimum and red LED light so you don't ruin your night vision being the extra bonus that experienced people/ the military might prefer.
Those super bright quickly flashing strobe lights I consider more of a weak defensive measure. The SOS type flashing also seems something that young people these days might not even recognize the signal of help/S.O.S, so those two really are not needed for a headlamp but maybe if you're a secret agent or get lost in the woods (around old people who know what SOS means) a lot.

3. Budget... these days this is the most important thing. You have to offer a low-cost option to get people in the door and using your product. I've convinced people to switch over to headlamps by having them use just the cheapest non-adjustable standard battery type headlamps. Once they start using your product they are more likely to stick with a brand they like but upgrade to a more expensive light the next time.

P. S. I also love those Olight mini rechargeable keychain flashlights ( the i1R 2 EOS Keychain flashlight kit type) but I have lost two now, possibly because that little round split key ring holder was / is not strong enough ( or maybe a friend took the second one as a joke? Only they would know I would keep looking for it for a long time.) I still think highly of that product but I'm not sure I'm going to get another one until I can figure out how to mount it to my keychain without it being torqued off probably due to rough handling my gear gets.
But even with the rough handling those mini lights took they kept working strong, until I lost them, so that says something about good quality right there.

18650 battery (that's all I use)
adjustable brightness from several lumens to 500-1000 (don't need blinding light)
good UI (Andruil is ok) and ergonomics/size
reasonable price $20 (hopefully)

#1 for myself is durability, I was always rough on flashlights in my job and if the bulbs element is fragile or the switch is unreliable then I look for a better flashlight.

#2 bulb and battery life

#3 Lumens

#4 Weight

#5 When the Company was paying for my flashlights price didn't matter, if I'm paying it needs to be a good price.

1. Reliability. A flashlight that doesn't work or that you can't depend on is a paperweight. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING is BS if the light isn't reliable!

2. Simple to use. A light that I have to press the button 5 times to turn it off? Not simple. Do I really want to go through High, Low, and Strobe just to turn the damn thing off? No, I don't. And take the strobe out. No one uses it, and it's a PITA!!

3. Light output, for a decent amount of time. Turning on afterburners is cool, but if after a minute or two the light's dead? Refer to item #1.

4. Power to weight ratio. I know this one's hard, but here's the thing.... I don't expect a keychain light to put out a huge amount of light (that said, I'm impressed by the i3e). And for a flame thrower, I expect it to be bigger. But maintain a fair ratio.

Battery run time is critical, and I don't mean running at a specific lumen for a certain amount of time, I mean it's totality. I suggest those of you that have an o light charge it fully, turn it on and let it run until it's dead. I did this with several of my o lights and they came nowhere near running as long as the company claims. In fact, I got about 50% run time. Upon trying to return them to olight, it became an absolute nightmare of being ignored and no response from their customer service. When I did get responses after numerous attempts over the course of nearly a month, half of them had Chinese writing in them. I was once a huge fan of this company, but any company that can come out with seven new products a week yet seems incapable of answering an email from people who have spent money with them loses my business instantly. I've gone back to solely purchasing streamlight products and have absolutely zero regrets

#1. It works every time, can take a beating, dropped and will not require you to tap it to get it to light back up, the build quality must be great.

#2. Great beam and brightness.

#3. Will accept rechargeable batteries. I am not so concerned about "Run Time" as I always keep extra batteries handy.

#4. Ease of use

#5. Design that allows it to be set down on a grade and not roll away.

Below is my 5.11 light, it is a little banged up, been using it for a few years but it still works. Not perfect. I have dropped it a lot using it nightly as my Truck Driver Light inspecting trailers and the like. It is NOT perfect, it has some issues I find annoying sometimes. Sometimes I bump or drop it and the light goes off, I have to tap it to get it to go back on, as the batteries get out of alignment or something. Did that since it was new. Also, it rolls too often leading to the "Drops" mentioned prior. I will set it on the top of a truck tire or truck step and it will sometimes roll off and fall on the ground because it is too round. It has a rubber bit on one end that has nubs on it I think to keep it from rolling but I think they are just too worn down, They should make these lights square. The end cap is a bit annoying, the threads are very thin so it is sometimes difficult to get the cap aligned up just right to get it to screw on without cross-threading. The last issue, the push button... Not the easiest to find at night with work gloves on, have to really feel around for it but at the same time, it is easy for it to accidentally be pressed on when I toss it in my door panel pocket or when it is in my backpack with my other gear so it can run down my batteries without me knowing it. But, it has taken a beating and still runs, You can see it has been well used. I will replace it with something better when it finally dies.

Default I'm glad to tell you, your problems about flashlight has already been solved

About your problems with your light, I'm proud to say, they are no problems anymore.
1. I've been to Olight's factory, every Olight flashlight have to pass various falling tests (the light cannot go off or blink after dropping or car shaking, and the light must keep steady)
2. the lumens, beams, and light throw of Olight tactical light are always impressive.
3. Rechargeable batteries? You can even use a USB to recharge the battery directly because it has a charging mouth on the battery!
4. Nothing can be easier than a tail switch. You don't need to find the switch with a glove at night anymore.
5. Most olight tactical and EDC lights are equipped with magnet tails, which means you can attach them to any metal surface so they won't roll. And you can charge them easily through a magnetic absorption charger. Square light? Already have (check out Archer)
6. To avoid accidentally being put on, almost every olight products have a button lock.
See? I really think you should consider olight product as your next light. It will really soothe your work.

Default I'm sincerely for your trouble

I'm so sorry that our products haven't met your expectations and the customer service is not as perfect as it should've been.
For instance, I believe I need to explain to you that all of our lights have different lighting levels, and each level has different running times. You can see the running time from the "Technical Details" of every product. If you find our data can't match the real performance, it's our responsibility to solve the problem. As for customer service, there are too many emails to process within a limited time, so there might be mistakes made because we are only human. We are working on it. Please give us time. If you are willing to, I'm happy to assist you to solve your issue.

Default Reliability

I am a IT guy so a little flashlight, like many here, is part of my everyday work kit. I use it several times a day and drop it a fair amount (I'm clumsy.) I have cycled through a variety of lights over the years trying to find the perfect light (Mag, Surefire, Streamlight, Novatac, Fenix, Sunwayman, Olight, and probably a slew of them I am forgetting.) If you asked my wife, she'd look around our house / garage and admit I may have a problem ( I like good light.) For the last 7-8 years my daily carry has been a Olight Baton ( 1,2 & currently the 3.) It is am impressive light for it's size. It is not perfect but pretty close. Small size, great battery life for it's size, and impressive output at high/turbo even if only for a small amount of time due to heat/battery. This replaced a Sunwayman V11R which I also found to be a great light, but could not compare battery wise and needed to have batteries switched every few days. I did like the variable output of the light ( when your a foot away from the back of a computer being able to scale down the light output to about 5 lumens instead of 100 is nice,) and greatly prefer the tailcap to side switch, but charging base and magnet are also nice features, especially if your working on a car at night. What the Sunwayman did not have is reliability, I would cycle through about one a year before they would crap out. My first Olight Baton still runs strong and bright as do the 2 & 3 I keep on me and in my bag as a backup. The model 1 Baton I gave to my pops who now keeps it in his jeep as car light since it can charge off the USB cigarettes lighter.

As a matter of fact, we already have a headlamp on sale at this time. It's Perun 2 Purple. You can wear it on your head or clip it on your clothes. Just as convenient as you imagined.

And we are currently handing out one of our mini keychain flashlights for FREE. It's i3E Green. Get one for free if you really like it! By the way, I'm so sorry that you have lost two now. I would make sure that our factory knows the ring holder might not be strong enough. Thanks a lot!

If you asked my wife, she'd look around our house / garage and admit I may have a problem ( I like good light.) For the last 7-8 years my daily carry has been a Olight Baton ( 1,2 & currently the 3.) It is am impressive light for it's size. The model 1 Baton I gave to my pops who now keeps it in his jeep as car light since it can charge off the USB cigarettes lighter.

assuming it's a quality product.....

coherence of the light pattern is a highly valued attribute....no one expects a torch to be a laser, however the breath of pattern should be as uniform as possible
