400 rounds is good for 5 matches. I usually shoots from 50-60 rounds in a match but that's because my rifle is already dialed in on all 4 critters...your mileage may vary.

You are a real M14 and not an M1A? Wonderful as I also have an M14 a full auto TRW M14 (at my vacation home in another country). Very fun to shoot in full auto but couldn't hit anything with it after the first round. Mine is due for a barrel change as the throat is worn due to many hundreds of fun full auto rounds.

Your M14 might do okay once you get the dope on all 4 distances. Make sure you write them down so next time you come out you won't spend a lot of time and ammo getting dialed in.

I always bring two identical rifles and ammo in case one malfunction during the match. Trust me that 90 minute drive will feel a lot shorter going to the match but will feel like a 120 minute on your drive back.

Decided I didn't want to play the is it a flash hider / brake game, so I removed the SEI comp a long time ago and lost the front post. Just running a thread protector for now; I'm sure the people on the benches next to me are appreciative. It'd be fun to shoot a real M14 with the fun switch, but I doubt I'd manage the recoil.

We'll see how the function test / zeroing goes. I know the Howa is dead on, and I already have a dope chart for dialing up fast. I just want to try shooting irons at distance more than anything, but it'll probably take a few matches.

Yes I'm still rocking the huge sombrero albeit a newer model as my original one I had to retire due to lots of battle scars.

The real deal M14 sure is fun to shoot in full auto as long as you're not expecting to hit your target because you won't in full auto. My ultimate goal is to collect all of the different manufacturer I just need to add the SA, Winchester & H&R. I have a prospect on a nice H&R when I go to my vacation fun location this soon.

Eventually! Oldest mini-Widdle is gonna be 10 this year, but there’s three more that will need adult supervision.

168gr bullet @ about 2700fps or so, out of a 1903a3 30-06. Sometimes the rams hang tough.

Dang! I would’ve thought that 168 grain 30 cal bullet would’ve twisted that ram off the rail. That rear hitting the ground put a halt on it. Shot my 10.5” Ruger SBH 44 Mag with 240 and 260 grain iron sighted. No problem flipping the small medium targets off the rail even with an edge hit. Shoot I was elated just hitting the far targets.

I've rang several rams with 30-06 loaded past max with 175 grain projectiles.

Sorry I didn’t mention. Handgun Metallic Silhouette if I remember correctly farthest targets are at 200 yards. Sometimes they go bonkers at club matches and put 250-300 yard targets which are usually for the XP100, TC Contenders firing rifle rounds.

Anyway for people that didn't make it for today's match, you all missed a great match. About 25 shooters From all walks of life and abilities. Weather was great and wind was calm until towards the end of the match when I was shooting rams and only mange to hit 6 rams.

Yes. And in a NRA sanctioned match the rails are elevated several feet off the ground. So, if one foot touches the ground at Sacramento then the presumption is that it would have fallen off the elevated rail. Ergo, a hit.......it counts. Here is a pic of the national course in Raton, NM. Notice the target setters putting the animals up on pedestals, about 3 feet off the ground:

Never did that in Sac, only reduced course at Chabot. That’s hard!!

That's how the whole thing started. Silhouette shooting stated in Mexico, shooting standing position. They shot at live animals that were tethered so they didn't move much. It quickly evolved to shooting steel targets; they ran short on live animals.

Fun match! Ending on the rams with that left to right wind absolutely nuked my score. I was just happy to end on a little ram hit considering I only managed 2 out of 9 shot, and didn’t even get to my 10th.

Went 10 / 10 chicken, 6 / 10 turkeys (1 small target hit), 7 / 10 pigs (0 small target), 2 / 9 rams (1 small target hit, no 10th shot): 25 / 40.

I’ll probably skip next month, and then try to shoot the Semi Auto Military match in July so I can run the Fulton.

Anyone on the fence about going should go. Didn’t know anyone heading in, but met a lot of nice people with great info to share.

Match was lots of fun, total of 25 shooters shooting all sorts of rifles.
What I find interesting is the match winner (shot a 32) shooting a 110 year old Swiss 1911 beat all but one other shooter in the vintage class with scope rifles. So what's the secret? Must be some magic dust sprinkled over the rifle sight before shooting I guess.
