I'm torn on this. Hate that Newsom can/did do this but also don't care because that gun show became nothing but a money grab for Crossroads.

Sucks

Another step to confuse people that criminals who use guns violently- somehow benefit from gun shows.

This will not help him in a bid for national office.
Then again since Trump won a landslide and was cheated, this might give Newsom an advantage, to those who control election fraud.

Its time to find private venues and bring friends, family and guests to gunshows.
BTW whining , complaining and condemning gun shows is not a smart tactic.
Just saying, my daughter always enjoyed the shows for the non gun related items .

Powerhouse businesses are leaving California on a weekly basis, such as Tesla announcing just this past week of moving its headquarters to Austin, Texas. There have been hundreds with similar announcements this year, big and small.

Then you have affluent individuals leaving California at roughly 1000 a week more than those moving into CA, the latter who most often happen to be homeless, illegal aliens, or the 'I'ma gonna be an akress' wanna-bes without a penny to their name, cultivating a a serious revenue deficit.

So it's quite a bizarre NeoSocialist trinket on display, when you see them bragging about a significant injury to tax revenue and job reduction for the county and/or state, when they know full well that all purchases at gun shows go through the same legal 4473/DROS process and waiting periods as any other FFL/store bought purchase.

This is particularly true since Jerry Brown had done away with face-to-face private party trades for long-guns 50-years old and older years ago, and ammo purchases now require full background check, gunshow or not, due to Prop-63. Throw in their recent ban on "80%" receivers, and you have NO aspect of a gun show in CA offering any purchase outside of what must be done at a brick-and-mortar dealer's counter with FTC, safety stunts, with paperwork, fingerprint, and all.

This was all thoroughly explained to these assmunches, time and again, as this bill went through the commitees and process.

They know that the erroneous propaganda of criminals buying guns at a gun show is slanderous mythology. It just doesn't happen because it can't happen.

So with that in mind, they also know this bill does nothing to stop that, and is nothing more than a way to abolish an avenue to legal gun ownership, an underhanded way for them to prevent the People from fortifying their 2nd Amendment rights.

That is solely what this about.

It has nothing to do with stopping the nonsensical term 'gun violence' and there is NO data whatsoever that shows that the perpetrators of violent crimes who utilized guns had any more percentage of having purchased a gun or ammo at a gun show in California than anywhere else that's legal to buy a gun and go through the same regulatory (albeit, civil-right infringing) process. Quite the contrary, most guns in crimes are found to have been stolen.

So this new law does absolutely nothing but remove badly needed revenue off the table for California's taxpayers, and injures them further by reducing an access in their ability to give tangible meaning to their 2nd Amendment right, if not also for right to assemble and 1st Amendment rights.

Due to all sale-processes being the same, this is no different than if they came right out and start shutting down gun stores.

It would be like saying "it's OK for you to have a 1st amendment right, but we're going to cut out your tongue, burn books we don't like, and shut down your temples and churches."

As an experienced gun owner or prolific collector, whether you find any meaningful value, good prices, or material worth in items offered at gun shows is irrelevant. Gun shows not being as good as they once were has no input into the discussion or importance of this civil-rights prohibition.

The banning of gun shows in California is a direct ban on a way for the People to legally access firearms, a way to gut 2nd Amendment expression, especially on property for which our taxes built and continue to facilitate for operations. In that regard, trade shows that sell ANYTHING on state/county property should be banned.

Since the ban ONLY applies to Orange County I would expect there to be a lawsuit over this. It’s obviously retribution against the OC Board of Supervisors and the good residents of the county for their resistance to Neswome’s maniacal approach to the Wuhan.

Yes, but also NO - depending on availability of a venue, cost, but more importantly the allowance dependent on their contracts, who actually controls the venue (i.e., landlord), business ordinances, permits, and/or licensing in order to hold gun sales on such a property. It may not be possible at all for some venues based on the latter, even if willing.

Same thing basically happened to the L.A. County fairgrounds about 20 years ago. Back then it wasn't the Gov, it was just the L.A. county board of supervisors that outlawed the sale of guns and ammo on county property.

Newsom didn't do this. Senator Min and the Legislature did, but Min got his knees cut out during committee hearings. Newsom just trimmed some low-hanging fruit.

Quote:
A bill aimed at banning firearms sales on state-owned properties that was later amended to apply only to the Orange County fairgrounds in Costa Mesa has been signed into law, ending shows that have brought in $7 million at the site since 1995.

Introduced by state Sen. Dave Min (D-Irvine), Senate Bill 264 was among a suite of gun-safety bills signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom before an Oct. 10 deadline. Its mandates take effect Jan. 1, making it illegal to sell guns or ammunition on property run by the OC Fair & Event Center, which constitutes the state’s 32nd District Agricultural Assn.

Min called the bill’s passage a great first step in reducing gun violence in Orange County and vowed Monday to revisit a statewide ban in the future.

He acknowledged his team was “caught off guard” in August, when SB 264 was amended by the Assembly Appropriations Committee to apply only to the O.C. fairgrounds, but said getting the state out of profiting from gun sales was a good move.
The Rural County Representatives of California tanked the bill in Appropriations citing local revenue issues. The bill got amended to cut off only Min's fairgrounds.

$7M dollars at the site over 26 years. That's $270k per year, and that isn't profit. If they made 10% profit, that's all of $27k per year. This clearly isn't about the State profiting from gun sales. If it was, then he should exempt firearm sales from sales tax.

Already similar bans at Del Mar and Cow Palace in place for years...

With all due respect, that’s obviously not the situation, and your comment is uninformed.

Please read my post, above. The bill originally sought to impact all state properties. Sen Min got chopped in Appropriations Committee to limit the impact to only his district. Now, it’s up to the voters in OC to dump the DB.

I would expect that a flurry of snowflakes will be protesting along Harbor Boulevard and Shoreline Drive. Make sure to smile, honk and waive (nicely, and maybe even a thumbs up). Take the high road into the gun show and let the leftist turds show their true colors.
