Has anyone had any luck recently with contacting the OCSD? I've emailed them three times including Melissa over the course of two weeks, and tried to call them multiple times.

I've done my interview and just submitted my certificate today. I have a question about the utility bills to prove residency. My fiance and I split the bills and most are under my fiance's name, but I make the payments on more than half. I can provide other documentation to prove I live there, but needing guidance or someone in an official capacity to respond back.

Any advice?

Prior to my interview, I provided my internet bill and my DMV CA DL renewal letter. Interviewer said that the Sgt wanted to see 2 utility bills.

On my second upload, I provided car insurance bill, W-2, and DMV Real ID letter when I received my real id. Should I just go ahead and upload my car registration too?

I've never been able to get through with the phone number and it always directs you to email them. I'd like to know if those forms will work or what else I can try to upload without letting too much time go by.

Should be fine. Seems like they quit doing house-calls to verify residence. They'll ask for further proof if they need it. If you don't have your utilities in your name you can't provide them. Period. Perhaps there's a deed recording or rental contract or something that would work.

And yes, just email them on it. Give what you can, what you have. They cannot issue a permit to a non-resident of the county, and they need/want to document your locale for your file. Same reason they want to know where you work. If something bad happens they want to know where to go looking for you.

Default Off list guns

A quick question.......and yes I know there is a search function but I'm hoping somebody can save me 30 minutes here.

Can you add off list firearms to the permit (like a Glock 43)?

Question Coffee-with-a-Cop & CCW Carriers

So, I saw this flyer (Orange County) and thought that if a carrying CCW permit holder were to attend this and chat it up with a cop, would they have to report this interaction with the OCSD-CCW department (as required in the OC CCW agreement)?

The terms of your (our) CCW state that you agree “to notify the CCW Licensing Unit within five days of any law enforcement contact or when the licenses becomes the subject of a restraining order.”

The terms also state “If contacted by a law enforcement officer for any reason, and the license holder is armed, the license holder shall immediately inform the officer they are a CCW licensee and when the officer requests the license holder’s license, the license holder will provide their CCW license as proof they are legally carrying a concealed weapon.”

Seems pretty clear to me.

CCW Holder: "Hello officer. How is your coffee? I'm a CCW permit holder and here is my card."
Officer: [caught by surprise—looks at it, shakes his head, and gives it back] "Thank you".
CCW Holder: "Cheers!" [extending his cup to the officer's cup]
Officer: "Can you take a picture of me?"

My IA says “no”. Think in the realm of law enforcement not social contact.

Easy gentlemen. I never said what I would do and I didn’t give any advice. I merely answered the question with information that is directly out of the CCW Terms with OCSD.

I’m stating facts. Not giving advice. Call the CCW Unit or ask Don Barnes if you want qualified answers. We’re all on the same team here.

Contacted means non-consensual contact.

Consensual contact doesn't count as contact.

I did not pick up my license that approved in September because of busy work schedule. Anyone got a call or email from OCSD for an appointment to pick up their license?

RMR on your ccw gun? Is the RMR cut on your glock slide on a standard g19 Gen 3 considered an illegal mod? Just asking.....

Most CCW classes will allow it as long as the RMR cut is factory on the slide of the firearms (so for a Glock, the MOS versions would be the only RMR accepted weapons).

I did my training at Artemis Defense and they said red dots are good to go as long as your weapon wasn’t milled out aftermarket. Other CCW trainers may be different. But I suspect Artemis is probably right on the money.

This^. So even if you buy a stock slide with RMR cut from Glock, since it’s not factory, it’s a no-go for OCSD.

OCSD went to an appointment system on October 1st, you may no longer drop in to pick up your CCW, rather you must now make an appointment.

You’ll have to submit an amendment online. Then you’ll be notified when it’s ready to be picked up. Just upload ID and qualification of new firearm(s).

Here’s my timeline
9/08 submitted initial application
9/16 interview
9/19 LifeScan submitted
9/29 CCW class
10/2 submitted certificate and final documents
10/6 received an email saying that my application was submitted for final approval and it “may take 6 weeks”

What is everyone else’s experience? Is it taking 6 weeks? Longer or shorter?

Is anyone waiting for longer than 60 days? I never received any emails indicating that it was submitted for final approval. All documents were submitted in early August.

Should I call to check-in?

Sent email to assigned investigator and email me back in 48 hours stating that

"Your application is still in the final review process"

Not sure what that means any suggestions?

I’m about 70 days in, CCW1OC.

All documents (including training) submitted prior to interview, and LiveScan done the day before. Not sure exactly when OCSD received LiveScan info however.

Interview on 08/01/19.

I reached out on 10/01/19 to confirm they were not waiting on any documentation from me, and was told that my application has been submitted for final review.

Oh wow, issued the same day as your interview?

Did your interviewer just ask you to stick around while they got it approved, or did you get a call later that day?

Hopefully that speed is a good sign for those of us still waiting.

Sure - drop them an email or call.

It means you have to wait. Could be a week or two, could be a month or two. They were kicking them out quite quickly but now it appears it's slowed back down again.

I heard something about in some states, a veteran with honorable discharge dd214 can get expedited, or just granted ccw. Is this true? And what is CA stance on this?

True for FL. CA, not so much. Depends on IA.

I’m at 2 months/10 days since OC renewal app sent in and my CCW license expired this past week....sucks to have only a knife, lol.

I have my 4-hr training and gun qualifier certificates, but haven’t sent them in....waiting for conditional approval, trying to be orderly so nothing gets “lost”.

I’m itchy to send the certs in, but guess I’ll wait.......

You can submit them any time. Some of the trainers submit them for you.
