Is this going to happen? Seems like the poll clearly stated a preference for a split by location/geographic line.
Personally, I think that we should require a location in the heading of the post. It works well for TheHighRoad.org

I'm a fan of the geographic split, but would rather see it broken down even further into (NorCal, Bay Area, Central Valley, SoCal, etc) and then have sub categories for lg/hg/both.

Ultimately I think most people would just like to see a solution for making things easier to locate, so as others have stated before, just make the location a requirement in the title is probably the easiest fix.

Location as an independent field using zip code or region. There are services or APIs that can regionalize based on zip code. This could be used to filter for someone who is not willing to travel or coordinate shipping, but also allow people to search all regions if the filter is not used.

Please split by location already, I’m hunting for location more than I’m hunting for a gun.

Not related, but can everyone stop using Photobucket for photos? There are much better image hosting services out there. Tinypic, imgur to name a few.

Maybe keep the long gun/hand gun split since they are way different animals. Then require the seller to state what county they are in and whether they will ship or not. This allows the buyer to determine if he wants to purse that purchase or not.

I’ve traveled hours from San Diego for the right deals. I vote leave it as handgun/long gun and allow one active thread in each. I believe this makes the most sense.

Default Seller determination

I feel that Geo graphic lines can be blurry. I Think a determination by the seller would be most appropriate because ultimately a meeting point has to be determined. Furthermore that meeting point determination is typically defined by an FFL Location that is somewhere in the middle between buyer and seller. For example a Seller may not be willing to travel from Ontario to LA to sell a handgun. That makes the geographic location a moot point. I live in the inland Empire and would not be willing to travel Past Orange County to Purchase a firearm. That makes the sellers determination of how far he will travel more import to me then if the gun it is only 90 miles away

This forum software seems very primitive by today's standards in software. I would think there should be specific fields in each posting such as:

type: hangun/rifle/shotgun,
caliber: .22/9mm/.45/.223,
location: county,
transaction: sell/trade/buy,
price: amount,
action: semiauto/revolver/pump/bolt/other
original_posting_date_range: date,
last_post_date: date

and a search/view filter would allow viewing only the entries which match your selections (for any specified).

Is such a capability not available?

wow. I remember when this thread started, have been busy and off the site for a bit, so surprised to still see it active.

I would love to see a marketplace forum specific to rimfire as that is a very clean split and for those who are rimfire collectors or enthusiasts it would get much more exposure as its own marketplace. Even without adding other splits due to geography, allowing members to have one longgun, one handgun, and one rimfire marketplace listing would seem like a fairly easy improvement.

Default Long Gun/ Handgun Split

A long gun/handgun split make browsing so much easier as a buyer, which then benefits the seller's. It allows you to shop for what you want without having to sift through the chaff.

Let the buyer's and seller's decide how far they're willing to travel.

It has happened. Sometime in 2013 it looks like. The marketplace used to be one forum with handguns and long guns all listed together.

I know this is super old I'm a new member but how hard would it be have a paired down Craigslist style sortable list , in my experience looking through the ads to try to find something is very slow...a craigslist type of sortable database with s few set parameters would solve most issues.
