NRA Life member for over 20 yrs, CRPA member, Second Amendmenr Foundation life member for 4 years.
Just read in today's LA Times that NRA president Wayne LaPierre was paid $5 million in 2015. That means every member contributed at least $1 to his salary that year. It seems that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are not the only ones who have found fame and fortune in fighting for civil rights ... ![]() ![]() So I am wondering... At $5 million / year, how does LaPierre get to criticize the wealthy "elite" without being labeled a hypocrite?? ![]() As an NRA member I am feeling a bit taken advantage of and mislead. I'm an NRA Life Member also, and I wouldn't want his job for any amount of money.
He is a high profile whipping post. You wouldn't want his job in reality. Just having to rub elbows with the Washington elite is enough to make me run for the hills.

Question 1. Do you think the position of CEO of the NRA is valuable to the members and the mission?
Question 2. If yes to Question 1 then do you think that the position is worth 7 figures to attract top talent? Question 3. If yes to Question 2 then do you think Wayne LaPierre is the man for the position? Now we can argue about question 3, but the answer to questions 1 and 2 is Yes. So I don't get the indignation. It is exactly how the lefty media wants to make you feel - don't let them. The NRA and its CEO are a real threat to gun grabbers, and they'd do anything to get you to dumb it down; anything to make it easier to grab your guns. |

If the LA Times printed it, its complete BS.

If a typical LA fire captain makes $350,000 a year total compensation - what does the president of the NRA deserve?

That being said, we do live in a (mostly) free market system. He is getting paid what he has been determined to be fair compensation. Why is $5 mil evil? Would he be less evil if he took half of that ($2.5mil)? What do you suppose his salary should be? Please explain how you have come to this conclusion. |

you think he gets paid too much?
get on the board and cut his pay. bet you wont even get a rag ho-ho to do that job for $50.grand a year. sure i would love to get 5 mill a year. but do not look at just the gross income. look at how much made it down into his pockets. and remember what he has to do 24-7-365 to earn it. and i must add in the fact he has to hire people to protect him ( not as in armed guards) but as in tax , and lawyers, etc. so a good part of his income helps others in there income needs. .

I just read that NFL commissioner Roger Goodall is pulling down $47 million this year.
Quite a contrast in pay considering one is protecting the Second Amendment and the other is overseeing a game for entertainment.

I have no problem with his pay, and have no comment about his effectiveness as CEO and Executive VP.... but I wish he would retire as a spokesperson for NRA, I cringe every time I see him on TV. An old, angry-looking white guy doesn't project the right image, IMHO. Dana, Colion, and others do a better job being the "face" of the NRA.

Wayne has been the front runner standing up for our rights and the "face" of NRA, so I don't mind even if he makes 20 million.
On contrary, Al NotSo Sharpton type of character ought to be on minimum wage! Quote:

+1 on this, Colion Noir, or Dana for that matter, would simply be awesome as the spokesperson for the NRA.

But please explain this veil. Under LaPierre the NRA has successfully won McDonald and Heller which affirmed the individuals 2nd Amendment rights and took down a few handgun bans. 21 laws passed prohibiting gun confiscations during emergencies, 12 castle doctrine laws passed, 7 range protection laws, 6 laws that states have passed prohibiting municipalities from excessive regulations. How about Doe vs San Francisco Housing? I think you are taking a lot for granted. The idea that Wayne LaPierre has been ineffective in helping gun owners is absolutely absurd. |

I for one am sated with the effort that the NRA is putting into California. The problem here is gun owners that don't make the effort to help fight or vote democrat.
The NRA is only as strong as it's membership, why do I get the feeling that you aren't doing your part? Are you one of those that believe the BS and have been suckered into believing that the NRA isn't fighting in CA?

I'm curious how often he actually gets to go out and enjoy a day at the range, or in the field pursuing some fresh wild organic dinner of whatever flavor he prefers?
I bet far less often than us! |

I have no idea how well, or how poorly he is at leading the NRA internally, but I cringe every time I see him out front as our main spokesman. He comes off as an angry old white guy, which is the last thing we need from a PR standpoint. I like Dana a lot, but she can come off as hard and sharp.. I'd like to see someone like Colion Noir get a more prominent role as spokesperson for the org. $5M/yr seems high but not so much to argue about it, sure the job isn't easy, but I'd gladly take the abuse for 2 years for $10M, and then spend the next 10 years lying on my private beach to "recover". Where do I sign up? ;-)

repomanNWP You make a good point. I still don't see a problem with the salary amount but I do agree that Colion Noir should have a bigger voice for the organization. Showing the diversity the NRA has would be a good move since society is so polarized right now. LaPierre does have the outward appearance of an angry old white man... maybe the NRA should get Dom (someone who served in the military and has outstanding moral character, as well as being well voiced) or Colion (someone educated, articulate, personable, and a minority) in a greater spokesperson role.
