YES - 9999 times out of 10000 if he is responding to a want to buy ad and says he "knows a guy", he is a fraud and untrustworthy.

Apologies in advance for the long thread!

This new Calgunner scam approach is posting in the Marketplace - "Private Firearms Sales - Handgun" section, not combing through the WTB threads.

Kevingair joined in Feb 2020, his only 3 posts which were for 3 guns for sale at really low prices in 3 separate threads.

He claims to be in Texas but is willing to sell and ship to California: "Moved to TX but can ship back to CA through FFL"

Besides the really low pricing, what concerned me was his posting two separate threads apparently selling the same gun without acknowledging it:

- Sig P229 Enhanced Elite for $700 went on sale 8/7, was never marked "sold":

"Selling this because I’ve moved to Texas and purchased new pistols. This has had about 300 rounds through it without a single issue. Comes with two mags and the case. This model has the updated night sites, extended beaver tail and short reset trigger. Still one of the best shooting guns I have found. Looks and operates perfectly."


- then another Sig P229 Enhanced Elite for $600 - this one went on sale today - 8/31:

"I shot about 1000 rounds through this Sig without a single issue. Looks and works like new. IMO this is the best pistol you can buy in CA. Comes with box and two 10 rd magazines. This is the Enhanced Elite model which comes with a short reset trigger, sig night sites, and an extended beaver tail. These are $1200 + tax new. Cheers!"


I searched his profile and found he only had one other post - which was:

- Glock 17 Gen 3 for $500, went on sale today (8/31):

"This pistol comes with two 10rd Magpull mags, 2 10 round Glock mags, and the original box. Custom stipple job in the "sprinkes" pattern, agency arms upgraded trigger, Trijicon HD XR sites and extended mag release and slide stop lever along with a Magpull magwell. Pistol has about 500 rounds through it without any issues."


One CGer said that he stopped communicating when he declined to send him money via Venmo. Another CGer suggested they meet in a few days since he was driving through Texas - no response.

I asked him to please explain the multiple P229 posts - no response.

This trickster is still around. He sent me a PM advising he inherited his deceased father's Ruger LCP II - selling it for $250. I asked him where he was located... Provo, Utah, California. Clues - English grammar, became CG member date of my post, no history of entries or transactions and no clue about geography.

Hello just wanted to give CG a warning on seller junbug815. We had agreed on a price and day to set up ppt for a shield he was selling. Seller then went ghost and stopped responding to me texts. So I messaged on cal guns seeing if the firearm was still available and received a message back stating it was but that the owner wanted to raise the price $150 more than our agreed upon price. Seems very flakey and sketchy that this person all of a sudden isn't the person/owner selling the firearm. Buyer beware!

Found another smuck trying to run game on people in here. Seller handle is Surge12. He is claiming his XD9 is brand new and that he never registered it. Then states the gun is in san jose when his his listing location says Hayward. OK that's fine maybe he lives in Hayward, however, when I then ask him what gun shop is the gun at he says bay area gun vault, which is in Mt view not San jose. These scammers aren't very good at what they do lol. Beware beware beware!

He replied and stated that he had one at a mutually agreeable price.
I pointed out he had been a member here since June 2020 and only had 4 posts so I was a little hesitant but he retorted I've been a member here for 8 years and had only 80 posts at that time (fair point...)

Both figured out he was local so decided on a FTF sale

Said he was busy that weekend with family stuff but following week would work. He promised to send pics but never did.

Contacted him the following week (mid week) Agreed that Sunday would work. I set aside time with family to drive 45min to meet him for the sale. Repeatedly asked for pics and location to meet. And only met with radio silence. Sent him my email and cell contact as well with no response.

Sent over 5 PM to follow up. No response.

Gave him over a week in case there was some personal issues going on. Noticed he hadn't been active on the board for a few days. But recently I have noticed he has been logged on and still no response to PM's.

I agree. This is my 1st post and I'm exploring the site as time permits and trying to learn for a bit before I comment or ask questions b/c my question might be obviously answered already.

1st thing I did after I became a member was PM 2 people about their pistols for sale. Making arrangements to pick up one of those next week.

I didn't know there was a CA "Roster" until about 2 months ago....

He posted same P365XL 3 times in 3 days and kept on changing price and posting same handgun with same picture again. First it was $1000, then $1300 and now $1400. He still has 2 active threads with price of $1300 and $1400.

I contacted him when he posted P365XL first time and after some time he said it is sold to his friend. He did same thing few months back when I contacted him for a P365.

This is the same person who tried to scam me before, using the phone number (972)427-7844. See my message posted on 8/19/20. He wants money sent to him, then says he’ll send you the item. I had an item on the “Want to Buy” marketplace where he found me before. He said this number came from his business T&D Materials. Tried to scam me using the same song and dance, but different phone number. BEWARE WHEN POSTING ON WANT TO BUY!

I suggest blocking personal email accounts so the scammers need to respond via PM which CG Admins can review and ban, maybe a bit faster.

Reporting a person going by the username of "mogboss". I received a message from that person in regard to my posting in the WTB (Want To Buy) forum. They requested direct contact via their email address, I replied via text message here instead. They insist that they will ship the firearm to me upon confirmation of payment. I specified that a face-to-face transaction was the only way that I would purchase an off roster firearm in California (this is for a Ruger Mark IV).

"mogboss" is a new account, joined on 9/02/20, and has 3 total posts. Very questionable.

I did not pay him nor intend to, I was just trying to get the PP email out of the scammer.

I'm a new member and have had fairly positive experiences with Calguns minus people asking to buy all kinds of guns that weren't listed for sale. I do have to say beware of BigKat660 (Edwin 323-595-4483).

After a few messages and texts, he agreed to purchase a firearm from me and we set up a date/time to meet at the FFL. BigKat660 did not show and did not respond to texts or calls while I was there trying to determine if he was going to come.

I have no issue with a buyer backing out, but at least have the decency to say so and not waste another member's time.

I may be over thinking it but. Seeing as they’ve requested an address prior to even sending payment info, I believe it’s possible they may be soliciting home addresses of firearm owners.
