Wish me luck...(DIY holster)
I've been watching Adams Leatherworks on YouTube, and I have a pile of saddle leather scraps that I bought 5 years ago. Tandy is about to make a pile of money off of me from tool sales.
He makes it look incredibly easy. Just the cardstock templates were a few hours' work.

Just dropped about $200 on tools from Tandy. Could have had a VERY nice rig from Sam Andrews for that price.
But, that's not what this is about. I've refined my patterns a bit after watching some videos with the aforementioned Mr. Andrews and a few other Adams videos.

It's getting real up in here. Got a pile of stuff in today, need a few more pieces and I can start cutting, gluing and stitching.

Got to cutting this morning. Gluing and stitching are next.

Nice, that's cool. Do you have a sewing machine? Does it need special sturdy needles?

A machine would be amazing. Stitching will be 100% manual. I ordered a set of needles from Tandy. They're extremely heavy duty.

Oh, I see now. How the heck will you push them in? Do you punch a hole first or is the leather not as hard as I imagine it being? Can you poke the needles through it with your fingers alone?

Good luck OP! I made my first leather holster (IWB for Ruger LCP) from some leather scraps leftover from wallet making, and a salvaged Bianchi belt clip. Main shell is Essex from Horween in Chicago IL. Reinforcement on the sweat guard is Glazed from Shonan in Himeji Japan. Thread is MBT bonded poly from Nagai Yoriito in Osaka Japan. Making your own holster is a ton of work, but it's totally rewarding. The second will be much easier...
I made a pair of these for my Vaqueros: https://photos.app.goo.gl/WPHZEhCMybvXehHe6

gratefuldogg, SkyHawk, that's some great work!
I find myself somewhat apprehensive due to my leather choice, it's HEAVY, 12 oz / 3/16" for the main body pieces and 16 oz / 1/4" for the reinforcement piece. If this thing turns out well, it's going to last forever. It's going to be a bear to contour / shape and even stitch. The leather came out of a big bag of scraps that I bought at a saddlery / gun shop in Wyoming five years ago. I did buy a full stitching chisel set, so stitching won't be too terribly difficult. I flubbed the thread choice on the first round, ordering tiny thread. I ended up with artificial sinew from Hobby Lobby, which is waxed nylon. I can use better stuff for future projects.

If it is not too much trouble, I hope you can post updates along the way, it's very interesting to see it made from scratch!

I ran the leatherworking shop at a boy scout camp for two summers. Once you get the hang of it it pretty easy. Just start with a simple pattern.
