How much can you really prepare for? I have iodine tablets for my family and I in addition to food and water, generator, propane, antibiotics, ammo etc. I'm not pouring 18" concrete walls and building a bunker.

Stock up on iodine? Move to rural town? Get a bugout RV? Not sure how to prep for us that live in suburbs without a underground bunker

I bought a 1950s student desk from a fellow Calgun member. I am good. They protected students in the 1950s. I don't know of a single student's death from a nuclear blast.

Accept the fact that you won’t survive it and get right with God. That’s your best prep.

We don't respond to MSM fear mongering and take all news sources with a grain of salt or 2.

We prep for reality. Fires/Floods/Quakes. Otherwise it's business as usual here.

*nuclear boogieman has been used before to scare the sheep into spending money we don't have on "defense", MIC.

The nice thing about prepping, is that you are preparing for disasters. Having food, water, defenses, etc, stocked up can work for you whether the disaster is an EMP, or Pandemic, or plandemic, or gov't collapse, or invasion, or nuclear war...

Of course there are other things involved as well that helps customize your experience, and there are some things that all the preps in the world won't help you on. But by and large, being prepped means you're prepped for a multitude of threats.

Mostly this.

Oregon has just 2 slightly significant military targets - Air Guard fighter squadrons at PDX and Klamath Falls. And we're hundreds of miles from either, so small likelihood of effects of direct strikes. (But we're talking about Russian missile maintenance, so who knows where their birds are going to land?)

There's always the entertaining Nukemap - https://nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/

No weird wind patterns, so fallout from Portland or Klamath Falls or Washington or California should not be a short-term problem.

Which leaves the usual 'collapse of industrial society' problem.

We're already in a small town. City water supply is dependent on electrical pumps. I've got a whole house generator, so I'll have electricity so long as I have natural gas, and also heat and cooking but water might be a problem. We're a few blocks from our river (Coast Fork of the Willamette) but it's about 80 foot elevation increase to our place - heck of a carry or push!

So, no, no special preps for the suggested problem.

Earlier this year Putin massed troops on the Russian Ukraine border and a lot of smart people said he wouldn't do it - but he did.

Now he's talking about using tactical nuclear weapons and people are saying he won't do it...

After yesterday's news of three detonations on the pipelines, we benefitted most from those pipelines being destroyed, and Putin said he will retaliate. Yep, its time to prep.

Nuclear exchange, as in Armageddon?

1. Say prayers
2. Find a comfortable place to sit and watch
3. Hope that it is fast

Not worried, I have some 3.5'' #4 Buckshot rds to knock down Putin's Nukes.

Seriously, I only keep stuff around for quakes and if a Nuke goes off either I'll die, get sick and die, get sick and survive or if it's not nearby and I survive I'll volunteer to go forth and repopulate the world.

I wouldn't say I'm "prepping for it".

I prep for general purposes, like power outages, supply chain issues, and civil unrest.

If I were going to actually "prep" for a nuclear war it would require building a fallout shelter among other things, and that's just not happening where we live presently.

However, there are a few things I CAN do to tweak our existing preps a little more in the direction of "nuclear" preparedness. Such as getting a S.A.M.E All-Hazard alert radio set up, so that we'll get warning if something happens during the night, or anytime we're not actively paying attention. Getting updated physical maps of the western states in case we need to travel. A Nuke-Alert key-chain device to alert us to the presence of radiation. Other small stuff like this.

Nothing's going to save you if your number is up... but do remember that a lot of people who lived and worked in Hiroshima and Nagasaki (who are called hibakusha) not only lived through the blast - some are still alive and kicking TODAY. And they didn't have the knowledge that we do today, to help us survive.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibakusha
Quote:
The Japanese government has recognized about 650,000 people as hibakusha. As of March 31, 2022, 118,935 were still alive, mostly in Japan. The government of Japan recognizes about 1% of these as having illnesses caused by radiation.
In fact, 165 people are documented to have survived BOTH nuclear detonations, including one man who was only 3k meters from Ground Zero in Hiroshima, roughly 1.5 miles.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsutomu_Yamaguchi
Quote:
A resident of Nagasaki, Yamaguchi was in Hiroshima on business for his employer Mitsubishi Heavy Industries when the city was bombed at 8:15 AM, on 6 August 1945. He returned to Nagasaki the following day and, despite his wounds, he returned to work on 9 August the day of the second atomic bombing. That morning, while he was being told by his supervisor that he was "crazy" after describing how one bomb had destroyed the city, the Nagasaki bomb detonated.[3] In 1957, he was recognized as a hibakusha ("explosion-affected person") of the Nagasaki bombing, but it was not until 24 March 2009, that the government of Japan officially recognized his presence in Hiroshima three days earlier. He died of stomach cancer on 4 January 2010, at the age of 93.

Californians survived electricity shortages, water shortages, TP shortages and ammo shortages. We survived earthquakes, smog, Wuhan 1984, Y2K and Gerry Brown. We’ll be fine. We are invincible.

Living close to 3 military bases and a deep water harbor guarantees your area being a target. I'm expecting to be vaporized quickly. or no matter what dying from extreme radiation exposure.

I finally bought another case of toilet paper; hadn't bought any since 2020. I figure I'll hike over the dunes to the beach with my fishing pole, sit down, see if the fish are biting and watch the missiles fly over, presuming they take the polar route to California.

No special prep. If things get really dicey I'll head across the road and the lady there and I can have a 'missile party' if you get my drift. Go out in a blaze of, er, something.

Old age brings a different perspective. Good run. No regrets.

Current “preps” consists of:
Telling my boys where the Lugol’s Solution is.
Making sure both cars have at least a half tank.
Double checking the zero on a couple of rifles.
Then it’s back to business as usual for the hectic life of a retiree.

Nope, not going to fear something thats really not a possibility. Our goverment will use that fear against us to swindle more money out of our economy for their own desires and laugh at us all the way to the bank.

Putin wont use nuclear weapons against the US, even with dipschit in office.

Well, with the possibility that the US just bombed a pipeline that keeps Europe separated from Russia...

This is now a little more possible. Not likely a nuclear exchange, so much as a decapitation strike. Take out DC and a maybe a handful of other locations, and the US will be clueless.

Don't even need to use a missile. A diplomatic flight unaware that their cargo is hazardous... who knows. But the world would look much, much different.

Whoops!

A bit too off topic there with the graphic; this is not OT.

How do you prepare for todays hydrogen bombs (plural), that range in power by the “megaton?” Unless one has an underground shelter and can remain in it for a year, kiss your behind goodbye.

Iodine pills wont do squat if Russia and the USA decides to go at it with nukes.

Best plan would be going to White House to force entry into bunker or getting the **** out of US until the fallout ends., but if neither is viable, just hope that you don't live near a populated city.

That's the one thing we're NOT prepping for. The nearest primary target is over an hour away, and geography should take care of that issue
