Using a .444 Marlin with copper didnít stop a 200 pound pig never to be seen again
Sounds like you have a hard time hitting where you should . My daughter hunts exclusively with a 243 break action and has one shot one killed 2 pigs and a deer since her 12th b-day last august . Iíve killed pigs for years with 223 and 22-250ís Iíve never had pig with a well aimed shot go more that 25 yds Ö the 3rd or 4th one while jacking rounds sure but never one I had time to aim on
My vote for the BEST California round except elk and sheep would be the 243 followed by the 257 bob .

I agree that the one you can shoot well that you can find plenty of ammo for is the way to go. Last year I couldn't find any non lead ammo for my 6.5 Creed. I looked from about December of 2020 through about August of 2021. Decided to buy a new rifle in a caliber that I could find non lead ammo. I actually bought the ammo first. I was at Turner's and they had six boxes of .257 Weatherby in two varieties with Barnes TTSX. I bought all six and then went home and ordered a Vanguard in the same caliber.

Since I got the 257 I've started checking out the idea of a Wyoming pronghorn hunt. It will most likely happen in the next two years. I probably wouldn't even be thinking about it if I hadn't bought the 257.

Funny thing, after finding two more boxes of ammo before I was able to take the rifle home I realized I spent more on the ammo than the rifle. Oh well.
