Default Almost time to shoot some birds

I fly back to the US next week, and we drive to the farm for some serious bird killing. My dad says the pheasant are light this year, but I can't shoot anyway because my hand is still healing. This is last year my son gets a cheap deer tag, so he'll get to shoot one, but next year he qualifies for a buck tag. Costs more, but worth it. There are some absolute beast white tails where we hunt.

Can't even shoot and I'm already excited.

Yep, heading to SD for my first adult pheasant hunt. I’ll try to snap a couple pics.

I wish photos were easier to post. I'm too lazy to email the photos to myself, upload to imgsrc, then mount on report. Bloodydecks makes it simple, i can post pics straight from my phone.

I fish or hunt almost every other weekend. But haven't reported in a long time. I could skip the photos but nobody cares about a report without pics.

Nice racks are much better. You can grab both sides of the rack to help stabilize while mounting.

What? Grab a couple of boxes of shells, hit the trap range and shoot with the other hand.

Sure you won't be as good but you'll be able to hunt.

Also you'll be surprised at how much better you're weak side shooting will improve.

I, for one, would have to be planted before I miss a family hunt.

I can't reliably support the gun yet, and that make me unsafe to be around. There's also the chance I cant take the recoil without damage yet, and if I screw that up, there's no going back. I need another 3 or 4 months before that becomes reality. I'll still be there working as a blocker and spotter, I just can't use my left hand to shoot.

Can you "shoot" a camera?

Pictures might actually be worth more than the birds......

and one of these hunts this season I should take my own advice ----camera

Enjoy! Road hunting is why we switched to steel shot. Got tired of having to figure out if we were shooting in waterfowl habitat.

Good advice.

Do you know if it has to be steel? Or is heavy shot ok too?

And I was a little jealous of the elk I saw in pickups coming down from Teton.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought anything non-lead was good to go. Steel shot shot is just cheap and readily available.

Thanks. Checking with relatives, probably not shooting anywhere near no lead areas.

Getting though!
