Default Any references for a Gunsmith to do a Spanish Destroyer 9mm Luger conversion?

Hi, as the title says I recently acquired a 9mm Largo Spanish Destroyer carbine and as much as I would love to put some 9mm Largo through it i'm not a reloader and the cost/availability of milsurp ammo has gotten quite scarce.

As such I was wondering if there was anybody here that had experience or know of one who has worked on these rifles and knows how to do these kinds of conversions. I read that some of made home-made conversions by cutting a ring from a 9mm steel casing and using that as a chamber insert to shorten it just enough, but I was hoping to have it properly done if possible.

Thanks!

I would think that setting the barrel back 2-3 turns into the reciever would be the best option but I don't know the measurements of the barrel diameter at the bands to understand what problems that creates for the barrel contour fitting in the stock afterwards.
A little inletting would be required for the rear sight as that seems to be proud of the barrel diameter.
Are there any attachment points on the barrel holding the barrel into the stock?

If you set the the barrel back two turns, the barrel band and the steel forend cap would have pretty ugly gaps.

I love this forum- I had to look up the round

9x23 largo cartridge headspaces on the mouth of the case.[1] With 125 gr (8.1 g; 0.29 oz) jacketed projectiles, the muzzle energy is 336 foot pounds, slightly lower than a standard-pressure 9×19mm Luger.

Correct yeah that's exactly what I have! I knew that the 9x23 Largo would be a concern however I have read from other forums from other people who had successfully converted them to 9x19 Luger.

They did make these in 9mm Luger. The action should take it just fine.

If a *tight* fitting chamber insert was made, it would probably work. Put some rocksett on there to hold it in place. I'd make it out of steel.

Keep in mind the 9mm luger mags were different, if I remember right. And the bolts had to be worked briskly to guarantee ejection.

True, I have some 9mm 1911 magazines as well that I have read you can convert to work in the Destroyer, by cutting a square notch in the back in the right spot for the rifle's mag catch to engage. Testing with dummy rounds and holding the magazine at the right elevation I was able to cycle dummy rounds by cycling the bolt with a reasonable amount consistency considering it was my hands holding it in place.

I don't know if the barrel bands actually connect to the barrel or not.
Most barrel bands mount on the stock and simply hold a barrel down into the stock, but don't connect to the barrel.
If that's the case and the barrel contour is mostly straight, moving the barrel back within the bands and cap should not matter.

Do you have one of these that you can take apart and look at such details?

Another option would be to reline the existing barrel. 10 twist liners are available in 1/2" OD. I can do Win 1890's with my eyes shut. Not having seen a destroyer in mucho years I could not swear it is do-able. Sometimes there is simply not enough "meat" to work with. As with most things gun related, the devil is always in the details.
