My buddy was approved for his CCW thru LASD back in Feb. He completed the CCW training and sent the forms back. He's been in limbo ever since. Going on 10 weeks and still no word.

Has anyone received any sort of definitive word on what (if any) modifications from default factory configuration are allowed to the firearm(s) listed on your CCW? For example is LAPD okay with switching to an aftermarket trigger/FCG?

Does LAPD ever need to see the firearm(s) that will be listed on your permit, or do they only care about seeing the firearm data on the training cert?

According to the website, the firearm just needs to be compliant with state and federal laws. LAPD does not inspect your firearms.

None of my firearms were inspected by LAPD or even at the training class.

They just went with what was written on my application and subsequent training certificate.

The physical CCW card, on the back, shows make, model*, serial number, and caliber**.
* Model was pretty basic. "P238" instead of "P238HD" and "P365" instead of "P365 X-Macro"
** Caliber was truncated, also. ".380" instead of ".380ACP" and ".357" instead of ".357SIG"

If you took the CCW training, the instructor should've told you to keep your carry pistol stock. I was told if you change the trigger, it could prove intent.

That's something else, and it's up to the DA to decide whether a particular modification or choice of carry ammo proves intent. LAPD only requires that your pistol complies with state and federal laws.

Thanks palmaris for the info. NelsonV I thought the ccw shooting comment by the chief Was interesting too. Be curious to hear more about that.

Had my interview today. Took about 10 min. Maybe 15 tops. I had 11am, but showed up early and they took me in about 10:30. I was expecting a 1:1 private interview, but it was a table with 5 officers sitting across on one side and 2 other people interviewing down toward the other end of the table. I thought that was a weird way to do it and I don?t know how I didn?t see that mentioned in this thread.

Pretty much asked all the same questions from the form. I filled out part 7 while there and signed a few times. Forgot a photocopy of my drivers license but the officer just took a photo of it.

She said wait for the letter which they have 90 days to mail, but if I didn?t think anything would come up in the background check I could do the training now if I wanted to.

Hi everyone, I had my interview yesterday morning for LAPD CCW. Mine was at the academy. Like the previous poster I was not prepared for the long table with multiple officers and interviewees conducting 4 or 5 interviews at the same time. It was kinda distracting, and I wish you had the option to be interviewed alone. I submitted my application by mail in October a week after the application opened, and I am in the low 800s on the queue. I was called for the interview in Late February. I already did livescan and training, and recommend you at least have your livescan done before your interview. I also applied for and received a valid Arizona CCW permit in early April, which took a week to process.

I interviewed with an Officer from the LAPD Gang Narcotics and Gun Unit. He was very kind and professional. The whole thing took maybe 15 minutes, and most of that was spent going over the documents I gave him to make sure they were correct. He asked briefly about my job and schooling on a surface level and Then he asked a bunch of random questions. Some included: “Have you ever gone by any previous names?” “Have you ever been in a high speed pursuit with police?” “Have you ever carried a firearm without a permit in this jurisdiction?”, “How many alcoholic drinks do you consume each week?” “Have you ever lost a firearm or had one stolen from you?” “Have you ever been involved in a domestic violence incident.” “Have you ever been arrested or detained?”“Have you ever driven a vehicle under the influence?” “Do you take any prescription medications that impair your cognitive function and judgement?” and “Do you use controlled substances?” (He did not specifically mention marijuana although many others have had it mentioned in their interviews). Other than those questions and a few others, he re-asks the questions on the form. He appeared to be reading off of a multiple choice questionnaire so you may get different questions even if you interview with the same officer. He said since I did training already I should be able to get my permit picked up by August. There will be a letter and phone call to come in the next month or so.

Others already stated LAPD doesn't give 2 poops about aftermarket parts/modifications to firearms.

However, if you discharge your weapon and you're involved in civil or criminal litigation, better if you kept it stock.

Interesting question and comment. However, on P365 we have manual safety, which is easy to remove or install. Will any action be considered as ?modification?? How will they (whoever ?they? are!) know what version originally gun came in?

My CCW instructor did check my model/serial numbers carefully, but LAPD did not check anything. They used the instructor's inspection sheet.

Not 1 iota was covered. You actually think they want the news out that a CCW holder stopped a crime and that CCW licenses are good? No way no how

out of curiousity, what is the general timeframe? Sounds like it may be around 1 year for interview, and then six months for pick up with livescan and shooting qual in between?

In my ?follow up?, 4 months wait for call for interview date, then 5 months to interview, after that looks like month and half to pick up permit. So, about 11 months. Unless something major changed-this looks like very established time frame.
The best will be if you call and ask what is you # position in the line.

I'm about to do this process. Does it matter where we get the Live Scan done?

People have mentioned firearms clearance, is this part of the live scan?

Any place which do Live Scan will do. Download Live Scan form from LAPD CCW web site form. There is some very important info preloaded-DO NOT CHANGE! Add missing info (personal), print it out and take to Live Scan place. They will know what to do. ?Firearms? is part of that scan. Process is taking about 5 minutes. On the form operator will write down ATI Number, it is ?tracking number? to check results.
I just check mine and all are ?Completed?.

Question for people who already got their permit and have P365 listed. Does it matter what sub-model is it? Should we put as general model P365 or we have to specify, for example, P365X or any other variation? Any experience with LAPD on that?
I saw NelsonV shared his experience, anyone else?

Thx a lot.
I will fill up in PDF than print out.
One more question-Standard DOJ application has bunch of pages with some penal codes, do we need to print everything, or just Application? I am talking about pages 1, 2, 12, 13 and 14.

I printed all the pages when I submitted my application to the investigator.

As per the training, I also took it at firing line. There you also describe your weapon?s info, pdf from LAPD website. Such as Make, Model, Serial Number & barrel length.

I am definitely planning to fill up that training paper completely, only will leave blank stuff which related to date of training, instructor initials, instructor signature and so on. No barrel length on that paper requested.

Apologies about the confusion, I was referring to the paper that the trainers provide for you.
FIRING-LINE had us fill in that information prior the shooting proficiency portion.

For example, I kept my P320 just ?P320? even though it?s a carry model.

I already fill it up. Do they use the form from LAPD web site or their custom?

FIRING-LINE had us fill out theirs & the LAPD one.
I suggest brining an extra copy of the LAPD document.

Tbh, I just feel like they just want to assure the S/N is accurate.

I suggest brining an extra copy of the LAPD document.

Tbh, I just feel like they just want to assure the S/N is accurate.
Do you send in both or just the LAPD issued one?

What was the info firing line needed? I have my interview tmw and training a couple days later, thanks

The LAPD sheet & the completion certificate from firing line (their own document)

No training info needed upon interview. Just make sure the S/N you provide on the CCW app are the same firearms you?ll be testing with.

For those who took their CCW course at The Firing Line in Burbank, how long is the class and is one or two days?

Just did my live scan today, interview was last week. The officer said to proceed with training if I don't think anything will show up on the background check.

It?s a one day training course.
First some first service. They usually have them Tuesday, Thursdays and weekends. Did mine on a Thursday, 12-8 pm
