Might as well start a new addiction, I'm adding flashlights to my medicine cabinet/bar.

That's why my next purchase will probably be a PD35 Tac with either rechargeable 18650's or a big supply of the CR123's. The CR123's have more versatility since my Streamlight TLR-1 on my HD gun uses them.

A great shtf skill I practice regularly.

True. Personally i dont have a need for an ultra bright light at home and cr123 lights are too large to carry for me. I find AA lights give me enough output for all my needs.

I have the Fenix PD35 and the Thrunite TN12. I like them both but prefer the whiter color of the Thrunite.
If buying again, I would look at the MF Tactical stuff.
https://shop.monsterflashlight.com/p...hlight-5-mode/

I particularly like the idea of the selector ring on the MF Tactical, vs. the typical button type selector. In the dark, one must rely on feel to locate the small selector button and for me it is difficult and impossible with gloves.

Just got a Coast FL75 headlamp... has a decent focusing beam and a secondary mode with red LEDs for low light, and comes with clips to attach to a cheap hard hat. Pretty slick.

I don't go for high-dollar headlamps, since they get smashed into things once in a while.

It is a great light Also as far as brightest AA platform flashlights, The BLF X5 would probally be the brightest with a 14500. 1400 lumens, Though you you would need a imr unprotected battery to get that bright, maybe efest or nitecore 3.7v 650 mah.

Princeton Tec just came out with the TAC 1 and it looks pretty awesome for $60. And it's made in the USA!

If you want a bright semi thrower in AA try an EA81. It's basically the size of an old 2d light. Takes 8 AA's. On sale you can find it for 70.00 or so. I like the tn4a for all purpose. 4 AA. Lots of flood with an useable hot spot, 45.00 ish everyday.

If you really want high quality, indestructible, there's no option apart from Surefire.

I own lots of flashlights, but SF are the only ones I trust my life to.

If I was going camping / hiking, sure I'd bring a few lesser flashlights, but my primary would be my Surefires.

Don't think they make any AA options, though.

Otherwise, www.countycomm.com has some Maratac brand flashlights that use AA batteries. Those are pretty bomb-proof too.

Be careful on CountyComm....it is very, very addictive...

Also; I'd take a long look at surefire's new wrist light; seems it would be a phenomenal option for hiking & camping; keeps a light on your person, readily accessible for fast & easy access, seems like it would be very convenient / useful to have it strapped to your wrist, and you could wear it all the time.

Personally, I love nature and often go camping or fishing with my children, and if we stay overnight we definitely need flashlights. I have tried many flashlights over the years, but the best from my point of view is this https://www.amazon.com/Vont-Flashlig.../dp/B089T8HDBV. I like that not only does it have a very long battery life, but it can also be fixed to something, for example a bicycle or something made of metal. It is comfortable and has a large ray of light. I can recommend it to everyone, maybe it's a little more expensive, but it's worth it.

I have been pretty happy with the longevity of these... for BRIGHT cheapie CREE-castle-style LED 3xAAA-lights.
3 @ $10.99.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/3-x-Tactica...m/274141195162

You can get a dud, but you have 2 more... AND you have spare parts if you buy 2x 3-packs @ ~$22...
They take 18650's also...

Ive been really happy with Nebo. The Redline series is really good. Ive dropped them off of tall walls, a roof, in mud and have never had a failure.

I bought 2 of these at Harbor Freight, $7ea. 3 for 10 is a better deal! I've been using it about 3 months and couldn't be happier. I'd way rather buy a box full of these things at $7 or 3/$10 and if one stops working or gets banged up or I loan it out or want to put in a gift bag, I just forget about it grab another and keep going. I can't imagine a scenario where 1 quality light would be more valuable than a whole boxfull of these.

I have too many flashlights but nothing really over the top expensive. I like the olight i5T because it fits in my pocket. For a smaller, compact flash light for camping the smaller Anker flashlights are a great value. Bright, small enough to fit in a jacket pocket, and the battery lasts a long time. I don't see the model I bought on Amazon but they have several of various sizes.

For headlamps, I have a streamlight and Petzl that use a battery pack that is USB rechargeable.

I like the streamligt protac series of lights.

I have been looking at a protac 90x. It takes AA, CR123 or 18650. Output would be dependent on the battery used.

I believe on an 18650 it's at 1000 lumen. They are about $80 depeding on seller. They have a 300 lumen version that only takes AA at $40

But its a 90 degree light. It interests me because it can be mounted on a pack or vest or shirt pocket.

Aside from that i use a surefire g2x single output they have an AA version as well.

I'm sure there are other options as well.

I too have several of these flashlights---cheap to buy, like $15 at Home Depot---good strong beam and lower setting as well---I use with lithium batteries (no leak)---speaking of leaks, Rayovac alkaline batteries often leak! I find Duracell or Energizer batteries much better... This takes two AA batteries and is a bit larger than many of the little mini lights, but STURDY!

For my go to at work in my belt pouch , nightstand or long trip in my door pocket I use Streamlight. Have three of them. I like the rechargeable feature it cuts down on the amount of batteries I have to buy. If you have these DONT buy the cheap chinese reproduction batteries. They have very little use time. The factory batteries are expensive but they last.

For everything else day to day I don’t mind losing/ throw away, bang around shop light trunk/car light I use the Harbor freight flashlights. Cheap and they take a beating. If I lose one easily and cheaply replaceable.

If you can find one, this is awesome. I use it nightly.

Streamlight ProTac 2L-X 500 (lumen) is an excellent flashlight. Takes 2 CR123's or 1 18650. Not sure about a AA? Anyway, for the price it can't be beat, imo. They were on sale a few weeks back for $34 and I bought 3 (2 for me and one for an xmas gift).

Pretty good review ...
