Default Looking for a lockable hard case to transport rifle & shotgun - any recommendations?

I'm planning on travelling out of state and will be bringing my guns with me. I have a Mossberg 500 and a Ruger American predator w/ scope that I will be bringing.

I'm looking for a hard case that can fit both and is lockable. I don't mind using external locks or if the case comes with a lock, as long as I can lock it.

I guess the minimum length of the case would have to be 50" minimum, since my Mossberg is 48" long, but I could always remove the barrel.

Just looking for any suggestions. Max I'm willing to spend is $150, but cheaper the better if the quality is good.

In your price range, look into the Harbor Frieght "Apache" cases. They make one that's a knock off of the Pelican 1720. It's $165, but goes on sale semi-regularly for a bit less. I wouldn't get a cheaper case personally, especially if you have any optics going in it.

Questions- Will you ever fly with the case? If you fly- buy a pelican case - new or used

In a car- any walmart case will work

I assumed this would be the case, but good on you for asking. I would feel comfortable with a soft case in the right setting if driving out of state or even a more basic plano case.

If flying, I still think the HF Apache is OP's best bet. I bought a Pelican knock off by GTD on amazon for $118 years ago and it's great, but I just checked the price and they're not $199. I'd go Pelican at that cost.

Some of the soft side cases that are Tacticool can be nice as you can add non threatening patches that don't scream gun

green peace
nikon
Fender
Stratocaster

Lets say you walk through a hotel... guests will see a long case and guitar patches on it...

SkB, Pelican, Voodoo Tactical, list goes on and on. Good Google search. Stick with SKB, Pelican... lots of options. Or I'll rent you some.

Ive flown a few times with the Apache 9800 cases. I have one Pelican 1750 in the mix here (handle is up), the rest are Apache 9800s. I prefer the Apache cases because everytime I throw that Pelican in back of the truck, the handle is on the wrong side. The Apaches have handles at both ends. Other than that, they are nearly identical.

The Apache cases were $99 each. Currently $120 with their inside track club. I think the 1750 was a little over $200.

Buy a used hard case, look on here, craigslist, etc., and then buy a used soft "tactical" case that is close to the inside size of the hard case, and use both.

When you get to your location, you can ditch the hard case at "base," and carry the lighter, more versatile soft "tactical" case.

Keep in mind that hard cases are often overkill for most applications (obviously you need a hard case for air travel). They're big, bulky, and heavy.

But if you are going with a hard case, my advice is to buy a good one that will last, and find a suitable padded soft case that will fit inside the hard case (order the hard case without foam). In this manner you can leave the heavy hard case back at the hotel when you get to your destination. And the hard case can be used for anything since you didn't cut foam for a specific rifle.

A Voodoo Tactical soft double rifle bag works well in an appropriately sized Pelican or similar. There are lots of other options too, of course.

Screaming gun is a problem, especially to common folks and even police officers who look around. I built my daughter a piston powered AR
(Her choice of color…lol..) and she took it away to college in this
Faux Guitar Bag. She had no problems.

Like others mentioned, this case could be scrunched up inside a hard case
for transport. It is also combo lock friendly.
