Default Just scored a Zastava for a reasonable deal- First time Buyers Read This!

For those of you looking for a good ak platform. The Zastava m70 is currently the best on the market. Although they were about 800 dollars pre-pandemic, even with a small premium I was still able to find one for 970 from a dealer. The current long gun marketplace is full of scalpers trying to get 2k for a wasr 10 or even Zastava which is laughable at best. Do not spend that kind of money. If you are a first-time buyer do your research and make sure you do not buy a hand grande.

Stay away from American made Aks and do not buy:

IO inc guns
Century Arms Builds (RAS47, VSKA, C39V1/V2)

pre-Covid sellers could not give these rifles away and sold them under 500 with disclaimers.

Anything import is generally good for the ak platform. I am going to post the pre covid prices to help you find a deal:

Russian Saiga/ Molot (800-2000)
NEW Zastava M70 (800-1000)
Bulgarian Arsenal (900-1500)
Polish Imports (800-1100)
Cugir Romania WSAR (800-900)

Some of the Older Zastavas (NPAP, OPAP) and WASR 10's had problems with fit and finish Canted sights, or were made using worn-out parts. Bulgarians had issues with the finish flaking off.

PSA is a BUDGET COMPANY and although some guns have small issues. They have been good about replacing rifles or sending new parts. Pre Covid 700-850. PSA guns are not High-end Saigas or Arsenals.

If you are a first-time buyer I hope this will help you with your purchase. Be patient because there are deals to be had. The firearm market is good to those that wait. If you are one of these CalGun Scalpers I hope this information hurts your wallet.

Pre-covid?? I can't forget pre-Clinton prices, when I got a Norinco MAK-90 for $235. That POS ran like a sewing machine. A THOUSAND bucks for an AK now??

Arsenal is my favorite. SAM-7 “pistol” (SSE1) has some bark. My kids have named it Kamala; my black girlfriend.

Awesome words of wisdom! The new m70 ZPAP has the chrome lined barrel (opaps and npaps did not, but still 1000 times better than any American made IO, century etc). Is there a thread/sub-forum/community dedicated to AK in calguns? I haven’t been able to find one.

I ordered a new Zastava ZPAP. I paid more, though, $1200. 6 to 8 weeks probably before I can get my hands on it. I was worried they'd be banned or never come back in stock. Possibly my last AK purchase.

Zastava also makes Mauser bolt action rifles in both right and left handed models.

OP can you put the Pioneer Arms rifles on the no-buy list? Those are Polish imports and heavily marketed as such. But they're made of soft metal and suffer from the same issues as the RAS47.

good looking out OP

but what a sad state of affairs we are in. I remember when (not that long ago 2000s) WASR's, Saigias etc were sub $200

I was in middle school in pre Clinton days.

Good for you that you were able to get guns, California housing and other important stuff for cheap, but younger members like myself need to pay up at the higher prices

I agree whole heartedly with OP's recommendation on imports, but where's the love for PSA? Seems like they're adding some credibility to affordable American-made AK's.

Valuable info for new buyers of the AK47 Rifle platform. Our firm offers a wide variety of AK based rifles and would say for current import production rifles to consider the Top 3 would be .

Arsenal Sam 7 Milled
Zastava Arms M70
WBP Polish FOX

I am new to the AK interest, but have been an AR fan for awhile, but "diversity," seems to be what we are encouraged to do. I have been looking at your site, and I like it, but can't decide on the Polish, Romanian or the Serbian models. Any suggestions? I al leaning towards one with wood furniture, and yes, I am in California.

Why are people paying $1200 for a $1000 rifle? I bought mine for $800 last January.

People keep paying more than that need to and wonder why prices are so high.

Because supply and demand and capitalism. It always blows my mind how people on here just can't seem to understand that, endless posts about it. I sold a WBP for 1,500 and an arsenal SGL for 3,200 last year. OP's heads gonna explode when he sees this.

Jan 2020.. is that before the switch to chrome lined barrel for zpap?

I can’t speak for others but I paid $50 over msrp for sam7sf recently because I’d rather have one I paid a bit over for than risk not having one at all.

I guess it was too complicated for some of you so I'll explain it slowly...

It was readily available at Atlantic Firearms for less than $1200. Maybe not right this second, but for a long time. So why not buy it when it was available at $999 or less instead of paying panic/premium pricing?

And this has nothing to do with supply & demand, but rather poor decision making/planning.

Welcome to Calguns.net. Poor decision making/planning results in a large amount of whiiiiining...both for weapons and ammo.
