Default Building AR pistol upper?

Can you piece together an AR pistol upper from parts like you can a standard Carbine? Or does the gas make it too finicky?

Sure.. just use a pistol length gas system and probably use a barrel with a pre drilled gas port.

Buy a pistol length barrel du jour and an adjustable gas block. Pistol are usually ported large and the dwell is on the cusp of working reliably.

You can look for a complete upper too.

Shorties can be picky eaters.

A pistol upper assembles just like any other upper.

Keep in mind California constructive possession laws if you are building one

Pistol uppers are not any harder than carbine uppers. I just did one with the faxon 11.5 mid length gas system. Runs great on a h3 buffer.

I bought a complete PSA A2 10.5 upper for $220 if I remember correctly. Might be cheaper to go that route. 750 rounds so far with no issues.
