Weatherby Vanguard .223 HB, 20 inch Winner!
Folks,
I purchased this little dilly on Gunbroker for $375. It is a Weatherby Vanguard 20 inch heavy barrel. Threaded muzzle black parkerized, 5 round capacity, floor plate. The scope is a Vortex Strike Eagle 3x18x44, excellent scope good optics to about 12X. Then it gets a bit milky. I am using the 55g Barnes MPG, COAL 2.220, over 26.5gr of CFE 223. X1 PMC fully reconditioned brass, and a AR15 FGMM primers. Shot out to 500 yards at Angeles. But since this rifle will be used for coyote hunting, it will do 10 for 10 shots at 400 yards on a 9 inch silhouette. Here is what it does to a deer paper target at 100 yards. See attached image. Those Vanguards are tackdrivers, especially in that caliber.

I believe it is. I have a Howa 1500 Varmint in .223 and it shoots better than my more expensive Tikka T3 in .223.

The Vanguard is slightly different than the Howa 1500. The bolt is fluted, the gas relief ports are in a different spot, the stock is not free floated, and there's probably other stuff that I haven't noticed, like maybe the trigger.
I've seen Vanguard skinny barrels online for $320, but I haven't looked for heavy barrels recently. |

Good enough for government work.
