Current Bolt-gun options for lefties
EDIT: Decided to put everything in one thread since i’m in the market.
I don't know how "new" these are, but I just saw them today. 3 new Ruger American predator caliber options for southpaws. .243 .7mm-08 .308 in addition to the existing 6.5mm Creedmoor https://ruger.com/search/lefthanded/rifle Last edited by MissiontoMars; 04-15-2019 at 7:17 PM.. |

Called around - Looks like:
1. Discount and turners show them in-stock from distributors. 2. Street price looks to be about $499.00 for the .308, specifically. Not bad at all, IMO. 3. Models available look to use Ruger rotary mags. They didn't show an AICS/Pmag model, currently. |

As a lefty, it only matters for dangerous game rifles. Anytime you are shooting supported (blind, bench, sticks, tree stand) it makes little to no difference.Shooting with a sling does suck, I'll admit. If I was on rich and on safari shooting dangerous game I might make my whole battery left handed out of an abundance of caution, but otherwise you're better off living in the RH world.

If you're a lefty, shoot left handed rifles. Besides the ability to work the bolt without lifting your head from the stock. They are also safer if you have a case failure since they are designed to vent the gases away from your face. The right handed guns will let the hot gases run down right side of the bolt and vent directly in front of your face.
Here are some Winchester, Remington, Savage, Ruger, CZ, Montana Rifle Co., etc. I have others but this gives you an idea of what's available :

I struggled with the decision between the limited options and ended up getting the Tikka Tac A1 in 6.5. I didn't have a frame of reference to know what I would want in a custom rifle and I was turned off by all the long lead times. I also didn't want to buy an R700 that would just end up needing a lot of work.
The lefty HMR's were announced at Shot but don't appear to be shipping yet. Shooting 1000y a few weekends ago. |

It's a shooter too. Under .75 with Hornady 140gr American Gunner without even trying. .5 with the Match ELD in 140.
Emailed Bergara and they said their new lefty HMR's should be in stores by summer. |

But over-all you're right. I've had a Remington 700 LH for more than 40 years; I just wish someone made a left-handed Mauser. I also want a unicorn and saddle.

thanks for the info on the Bergara's...might be a bit over my budget, but it's great to have a new option.

I think street price should be under $1000 and I would definitely stretch my budged it needed if the cheaper option is an R700.

They work perfectly fine as sold. Same as a Honda Civic. People do the work to customize them yo their liking because it's easy.

I was talking about for me. There isn't a factory R700 in 6.5 that meets my needs as a base for a PRS type build. So I'd end up having to get it re-barreled, so might as well true it etc etc.

I have a r700 lefty MDT chassis sitting, waiting but I am exploring other options since i am not 100% decided on the 3 lefty options available to me from remington. One good thing is that I’m 100% decided on caliber (.308). Last edited by MissiontoMars; 04-23-2019 at 11:26 AM.. |

Ugh, I’m in the same boat. I want a lefty 6.5 Creedmoor in R700. But of course they don’t make one. I got some dough but nowhere near enough to do a custom build. So in the mean time I’m buying a R700 in .308 that will become a parts gun when I have enough to do the 6.5 build.

Just when I get my 6.5 build done Remington will finally drop a 6.5 lefty version. However they don’t seem to be jumping on the 6.5 bandwagon that quick. |

I charge about $400 to put a barrel on an action and fit a brake on the barrel.
Not sure where you are getting the "way over a grand" figure unless you are talking about some really fancy $600 multi-color paintjob.

For most people it is about 1k if you want the action Cerakoted. This year I did had 9 barrels spun up.. that’s more than a normal year, but a barrel can not last a year with the volume I shoot. Tonight bought another 2 6mm @ 373 with shipping each 350 chambering 150 muzle threading/crowning 100 Cerakote + shipping So 1k is what I count on.. Proofs I do not paint, but the shipped barrel is $225 more.. is about $1,100. Yep, you are a bit cheaper but the rates I am showing are fairly “standard” lol
