Using 168 FGMM most people report sub-MOA with their Remingtons. Yes, someone will report "well, mine only did___". Until you start rolling your own loads, FGMM 168 or 175 works really well despite the long throat typical of Remington factory barrels. Test a box to confirm and buy a case when on sale.

I have an older model 700 in .308 and the most accurate factory ammo out of my gun is Federal Premium with a 165 grain game king. I am a hunter and I have not tried any match ammo. I get .5" to .75" groups (3 shot) at 100 yds. with this ammo.

On factory ammo and annealing, when brass is formed, it is washed and annealed after every forming step. That means the loaded brass you get has been annealed 3 to 5 times (or more.) The last steps before releasing the completed brass for loading is usually a final wash to remove lubricants, and annealing to get more consistent neck tension properties. A final tumble may remove evidence of the last annealing (the discoloration/darkening of the neck and shoulder) and shine the brass up, but that seems to be manufacturer (or loader) dependent.

The Fiocchi fmj has been mentioned before. I'm curios why it over other hpbt or otm rounds? Is better suited to longer throats on factory 700 barrels? Is it more jump resistant? Please explain.

Perhaps he is talking about the Exacta (?) made with Sierra 168's?

That would be jump tolerant, not jump resistant. If it were jump resistant, the bullet would never leave the case.

i've been researching for a while on the same barrel length and twist
20" 1:12. most reports recommend anything using the Sierra MatchKing BTHP bullet in 168-175gr. federal, remington, hornady...try and see what works best. if you feel okay about running 7.62x51mm, german milsurp or sebian ppu are less expensive options that seem to work well. spin stabilization not quite there for anything heavier. good idea to make sure your barrel is broken in before serious ammo eval. |

Now that I have been ejumacated about ogive and bearing surface (Thanks Randall), I noticed that Hornady claims their Amax bullets has a long bearing surface despite a secant ogive. Their Black ammo with 168gr Amax claims an mv in the 2700fps range. Anybndy tried this in their R700 SPS with any success?

i second the advice to try several different types. I did and was extremely surprised by the results; i am very glad i didnt commit to a case without trying them out.
personally, for my 1:10, 20" 308 barrel i found the PPU Match 168 HPBT available at a relatively low price at target sports USA to provide great results. some of the top choices ended up performing significantly worse, at a higher price point! Each barrel is different, each rifle is different, be careful with trying to take advice from other peoples' setup.
