Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24 Scope...Opinions Please!
Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24 Second Focal Plane scope - BDC Reticle (MOA) with Vortex Hat. With Vortex 30mm low rings.
Narrowed my search down to this scope. I want a easy to use, easy to master scope. Application is a fun range gun 25 to 125 yards. Gun is stock Mossberg MVP Patrol 5.56mm bolt action, 16" barrel with 2 point sling. School Me! TIA. |

I like mine. Only reason not to go with that is if you are going to want a scope limited to 4x in future for starting to do high power competition, even just for fun it’s nice to be using correct equipment.
But I have a lot of fun with my 1-6 Strikefire on 20” SPR build, the BDC works effectively to 600 for gong ringing with slight holdover for my specific ammo. It's designed to be compact and low profile on an AR type rifle. You don't need that because you're putting it on a bolt gun. You also don't need the bullet drop compensating features because you're only shooting 125 yards. Nor do you need 1x power setting that's intended for CQB shooting. You might be better off with a traditional 2-7x or 3-9x hunting type scope that has a bigger objective and is easier to use. You can find decent 1 inch tube scopes from major brands on sale at various times for well under $200.

Agreed, you may want to take objective size in consideration - can make getting a sight picture quickly and repeatably much easier. I think 3x on the low range is a little high for 25 yrds. I like the 2-7x for his range. Leupold makes a vx-freedom line. Very lightweight and cost effective. They also have a 1-4x.

Some ideas worth considering above. But also think about the rifle in question, bolt yes, but it is a patrol, not a scout, and is a 16” not 24”. I assume if you wanted the forward mounted 2-7 scout approach scope you would have bought a MVP Scout with forward rail. So I assume you’re looking for a closer optic, the rifle is a compact multi role rifle so a compact optic is fine, a 1x is very useful out to 125 if you want to do target transitions as rapidly as you can for fun. A 1-4 would be just a good for your purposes, like the Bushnell AR 1-4. The rifle is basically a bolt operated close range carbine, I would roll with it myself.
The 2-7 scout long eye relief option is one good way to go. But it really shines when it’s installed forward. You can still kinda do that on your rifle with a cantilever mount but it will be pretty high for cheek weld. An AR optic with 1x is another. A 3-9 hunting optic isn’t the best option here unless you actually planned to start hunting with it, but they are cheap. I have the Leupold 2x7 Freedom on my Henry Golden Boy, a perfect fit.

I've got one on my 6.8SPC AR, I've shot several deer and a bunch of hogs with it. I'm very happy with it. Fast target acquisition on 1x. The reticle isn't my favorite, wish it was a little less busy since I don't really have a need for the BDC. Palmetto State Armory had the 1-8x with mount on sale for $279 that I picked up, haven't shot it yet but so far I think I like that reticle better than the 1-6x

I really liked the vortex 1-6 on a 10/22 for plinking beyond 100 yards.
I ended up getting the primary arms 1-8 (not the platinum) and think I prefer the eye relief of the 6x.
