Default Bypass USB - locked down in Win 10

I need to save some important files to a USB drive, but they locked down USB drives so it prevents me from writing. This is in Windows 10.

Does anyone know how to bypass this?

Yes, ask them to unlock it, or become a domain admin and unlock your computer’s access.

There’s probably a reason for the lockdown and asking a public forum to potentially help you break the law to circumvent that is not going to end well.

Use computer policy, if it is your computer and you are local admin on it. Or ask your admin to add you/host to a policy with usb access permitted

If it’s your own PC, do you have an administrator account?

If you log in as local Admin, follow one of these guides, depending on if you are part of a domain (domain use GPO):

https://www.c-sharpcorner.com/articl...in-windows-10/ (Non-GPO)

Or:

https://windowsloop.com/disable-usb-ports/ (GPO)

My company does the same thing to protect our IP. No file copying to USB sticks.

Our IT department will make exceptions, but you have to file for an exemption and get it approved by both IT and your manager, AND they have to look at the files you want to copy. You can get away with this once or twice for personal files on your laptop, but after that they really frown on it.

Bottom line is, don't use your work system for any personal stuff at all.

It kind of sucks. But I understand it. The f'ing chinese (and others) would love to get their hands on our IP. And in the past, some employees have left the company to form their own competing service-related companies, using the IP they took with them when they split.

We disable everyone’s USB storage as well. We have our own data, plus proprietary customer data. We hire people we expect to behave like adults. You know what they do? Bring in drives full of pirated garbage loaded with viruses. That is the real reason we block that stuff. If caught stealing data they will have a most untimely accident at the next company hunting trip…

Maybe that's what happened here? Cheney was just enforcing the White House IT policies?
