Default Anybody carry a blade when they were younger?

Went to High School in Southern California in the mid to late seventies. Demographics were basically white middle-class, white working-class and also Hispanic working-class. The Casa Blanca area of Riverside was just a few blocks from school and subsequently we had a number of gang bangers who attended. Those guys were bad news and used to walk around campus four or five abreast and dare anyone to cross them or break their formation. One day during lunch about ten of them beat the s*#t out of three of my white friends. There was a large Caucasian student reaction and the police were called.

After that I began carrying a Buck 112 concealed. Back then you wouldn't get expelled for carrying a knife like you would today. Thank god I never got myself in trouble with it. Funny looking back on it now because I am a bespectacled professional who is near retirement. I don't have rock star long hair anymore either.

Carried a knife for as long as I could remember. Swiss army knife with toothpick in my youth, then a Gerber and then a whole litany of others. Mainly benchmade after the Gerber.

When I was a kid I always had a pocket knife and so did most of my friends. I got out of the habit of carrying it when I was about ten.

I had a "Boy Scout" folding knife by the time I was 10. It was early '70s. Don't recall my 2nd knife but it was probably Swiss Army.

Grade school always had a Barlow folder.

Buck 110 for a very long time.

Swiss Army Ranger was always in my pocket until I lost it.

Been carrying a Benchmade I bought from a calgunner for the last 10 years (I think it's been that long).

When the epeen needs buffing a Cold Steel Black Bear Classic.

First knife I had was a a swiss army, got it in 3rd grade. I've carried it or another EDC knife every day since. I went to high school in the 2000s, so it was probably borderline expulsion material in my time, but I never needed it, so it never came out.

Is there a statute of limitations for things we may have done in our youth during the 1960s and 1970s?

I'm careful about admitting to things because my grandkids read this site and I don't want them doing a bunch of the stuff grandpa might have done at their age.

I had that same knife when I was around 8-9 years old, except my handles were blue, designating Cub Scout. I saw it at my parents' house about 20 years ago and decided to leave it there for safekeeping. My parents have passed on, and I have no idea where my knife ended.

Swiss Army Knife, Case, Gerber Mark 2, Buck Gent all bought by my Dad and given to me during my childhood.

I still remember them all.

I almost lost one that way. When they told me that I would not get it back (I hadn't given it to them yet) I got out of line, walked to one of the shops in the airport, bought an envelope and some stamps and mailed it to my house.

When I was in grade 6, my uncle gave me a shotgun for my birthday.

One string attacked- I had to always carry a pocketknife

I recall in high school we needed a screwdriver for adjusting a lane line in the swimming pool.

I produced a knife and used that and then put the knife away... as I was doing this in from of a coach and teach, I though I would be expelled.

They said nothing and life went on....

I know fear for my nieces and nephews... Would they get into college if they had been expelled for having a knife on campus?

I don't remember a time when I didn't carry a knife. High School in the mid 70's I carried a Buck 110 on my belt.

Not sure how old I was when my Grandfather gave me an Imperial folding knife. Carried that into my 20's when I loaned it to a friend who returned it with a broken blade. He did buy me a new one. I have carried a wide variety of all sizes since and have found a cheap Big Five Humvee assisted opening to meet my everyday needs. I have bags of knifes of all types, so when the current one bites the dust or gets lost I have plenty to choose from to replace it.

About the same for me, my grandparents gave me a little 2-blade Swiss Army knife. Still have it, still reminds me of them. Carried it for the next 20 years or so, until I got into larger folders.

My first knife, I found.
Three-blade Old Timer. That was Jr High.
I have had a knife or 3 on me ever since.
Currently EDC a Fox karambit and a little Gerber folder.
My EDC pack has a few more fixed blades, up to a Cold Steel machette.

Buck 110's were part of the uniform when I grew up.

Along with Levi's (denim or cords), white T-shirts, Chukka boots or harness ring boots and Pendleton's during winter...

Mine was outside the High school gym, in the middle of summer vacation.
Years later I found a Schrade LB7 (Buck 110) under the pile of burger wrappers in the back of my car. It was open, and clean.

I started to carry in middle school daily with a lockback bought at a swap meet. It died and I moved on to a buck 110 carried in my pocket. I WAS happy to see you btw.
Then on to Gerber Bolt Action folder, and since I pick from the 30ish pocket knives for the day.
When I go on vacation now and have to take a plane I feel naked without a knife the whole time.

Carried a three blade buck in high school.
Early eighties.

We also played KAOS with dart guns..

Killing
As
Organized
Sport

We made sure to use the toy dart guns that were not black.

Nobody cared about our stupid game.

All the same was true in my NoCal High Schoo... The only thing thats changed is you do get expelled, and they let the Latino gang bangers beat more people up... Whites, Blacks, Asians, Indians, and what ever crosses them.

I think I got my first pocket knife from my Grandfather when I was eight or nine, I can't recall for sure. I remember he had a well worn Scout knife he carried as long as I knew him. I've been carrying a pocket knife ever since.

I think I graduated to my 110 around the same time, mid to late 70s. I definitely carried it every day all through high school (Class of 80). While I traded it away to a friend in my mid 20s as I'd moved up to a Puma folding hunter, we traded back many years later, so I still have that knife. It had a hard life between my time with it and his, but a trip back to Buck fixed all the mechanical issues it had developed over a couple decades, even if they couldn't buff out all of the character marks. I've now got a 100th Anniversary model 100 that same friend gave me for my 40th birthday. Sadly, he went full libtard and we haven't spoken in years. I've also got my late father's 112 that he carried on some overseas adventures. Solid knives for sure, although I haven't carried one of those Buck knives in many years. I do have a Buck 172 TNT that was a collaboration with Tom Mayo that I do carry. It's a much more modern design.

I feel the same. The only time you'll find me with no knife in my pocket is when I'm in an airport, on an airplane or in certain government buildings. I don't know how folks go through life trying to open packages with their car keys? I will confess, my fascination with pocket knives has taken an expensive turn for the worse. I found internet knife forums many years ago and got introduced to hand made tactical folders and it's been all downhill ever since!
