No pics but I picked up a Old Henry Deer Slayer last week from The Smoky Mountain Knife store just down the road from my home. I plan on using it on a buck antelope first week of October in Douglas Wyo.

The Randall I?ve kept is my Model 8. I?ve had for 30 + years. Now I just buy them to flip. During the start of Desert Storm I was able to get 4 model 14s from Tom Clinton who was a Randall dealer.

My latest addition to my collection, is a very sexy customized "Blackout" Gentlemen Jack 2 drop-point folder from Medford Knife & Tool. Expensive, gorgeous and timeless.

Very pretty. Thinking about doing the AWT treatment on my G10 Manix as well as it feels just a tad too heavy. I think the LW version is fantastic!

My wife and I went to the Gathering Of The Usual Suspects, otherwise known as The Gathering knife show at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas over Labor Day weekend. The show has been going on for most of 14 years with the exception of no show in 2020 due to Covid and a very limited version in 2021 for the same reasons. I always look forward to this show as it's one of the biggest knife shows on the west coast and is mostly focused on the stuff I like. It's not full of shiny Loveless style skinner fixed blades or Swiss Army knife collectors. High Tech folders are the order of the day for the most part. We also get to see folks we only see once or twice a year and catch up with old friends. I often come home with some cool stuff as well. Here's this year's haul:

From top to bottom:

The items at the top of the pic are not knives, but Titanium Ti Bolt pens made by my best buddy, Brian Fellhoelter in Mississippi. More on those later in this post.

As far as the knives above, the top one is a Boker Plus collaboration with Lucas Burnley of his folding Kwaiken model. It's a frame lock flipper on caged bearings featuring a marbled carbon fiber scale and a D2 blade. This was my insurance knife. I typically look for super cool specials at big shows and grab one early in case I strike out on finding anything more significant. This will probably go to my buddy that watches my dog when we travel as he likes knives and CF. It's very stabby and looks like it would be a good slicer.

The next one down is an inexpensive Spyderco pairing knife I bought. I have one other Spyderco 4" utility kitchen knife and both are great kitchen tools for not a lot of money.

Below that is a ProTech collaboration with Bob Terzuola based on his famous ATCF model. It's a limited edition that was done for the show. It features laminated G10 scales in a honeycomb green & black pattern and is signed by Bob on the reverse side of the blade. That was a proxy buy for a buddy that is a big Terzuola fan, but couldn't make the show. Here's a close up:

Next one down is an Emerson Super A100 Custom that I scored in the Emerson lottery. It's a hell of a folding fighting knife, but would also make a hard use utility knife. It's got a thick Ti lock bar and black canvas Micarta scales. I may flip this one to defray the cost of attending the show, or keep it and hope it appreciates further. Time will tell.

The bottom knife is a Buck Mayo 174 Wiamia. I have most all of the Buck Mayo collaborations, but was missing this one. It was given to me as part of a give away by the show staff. Buck had this one made in China, so it's certainly not up to the quality of the US made 171 and 172s I have already. I'm friends with Tom and have several of his handmade customs, so these are a sidebar to my main Mayo collection.

I also picked up a limited edition Hogue Deka, which is a collaboration with Allen Elishewitz. It features a CPM 20CV black DLC coated blade, sculpted CF scales, blue anodized hardware and a tritium vial in the Axis lock. Benchmade pioneered the Axis lock, but now that the patent has expired, other maker are using it and I think Hogue executed it better than Benchmade and did an excellent job with this design. It has become one of my favorite EDC knives and has replaced my old Benchmade 941D2-CF for ultralight carry applications. It also has CF scales and an Axis lock and has been a fav for years, so this Deka dethroning it is a big deal in my EDC rotation. And, who doesn't love Tritium? Here's a pic:

Now, a bit more detail on the pens:

My friend Brian introduced his Ti Bolt, bolt action American made all Titanium pens several years ago and it has turned into a full time business and an American small business success story. I picked these four up this year, but have several others already. I use them everyday. The one on the left is embossed with a WWII aircraft pattern reminiscent of a P40 Warhawk a la the Flying Tigers pattern. It's upgraded with the milled Ti clip and a ball bearing spinner top cap. It makes a great fidget tool in meetings and has become one of my EDC pens. The other three are decorated Ti Bolts that I bought to add to my gift pile. They make great executive gifts! #2 is a Celtic knot pattern. I already have one of these with a copper body, so this is gift fodder. #3 has a new pattern and I can't recall what he named it. To the far right is what he call's his Deluxe pattern, but is actually one of his two base models and is one of the more affordable Ti Bolts. These all Ti pens are very sturdy and seem to be completely TSA friendly in my experience.

Sorry for the long post, but there was a lot to cover.

Some new ones recently...

I got a 0566 again... my favorite speed safe - I actually like carrying it as much as any ZT... perfect sized. Anyone else picking up Old Hickory or OKC stuff since they are out of business?

Just bought my first Olamic, its getting shipped out either today or tomorrow hopefully I get it by Saturday and can post pics. I have some pics of it but they are pics of its progress throughout being built so dont wanna post pics until I get the finished product.

It's a damasteel wharncliffe blade with fordite inlay, all hardware and finishes will be a surprise to me as well since I gave them leeway on the build.

Shiro makes awesome knives. Great materials and tolerances. Sako and the team at Recon1 are awesome. It's awesome that they're a 30 minute drive from home for me, but I'm in their neighborhood often, so sometimes I just drop in.

I doubt I'll pony up for the FNBA that Sako is hosting next Friday night in Woodland Hills, but I'll certainly be at his show on Saturday.

Thanks, it's now my EDC, very well made. I too intend to stop by the CCKS as well to check out some blades.

Ka-Bar BK2 and Jarosz Camp Turok... during 50% off a week or two ago...

Intended as Christmas gifts, but man I love the BK2! That thing is a beast and I might keep it.

Somebody just had to post up cheap Kershaws at Bereli, so I bought a Volt, a Zing, and a 1556 Cryo II. I guess they're okay for $20.
