Default RIA Builders Kit

I've been eyeing the RIA double stacked 1911s for quite some time now. However, here in California the 10mm version is not available for sale, only the 45 ACP version. I saw on Armscor's website that they sell 1911 builder's kits in 10mm and I was therefore wondering if it's an easy task to fit one of these builder's kits onto a double stacked 1911 45 acp frame? Is it pretty much a drop in kit or does it require heavy gunsmithing?

Ive done this 3 times now, just not with 10mm/40sw. I did this with double stack 1911 a2 gi i purchased and swapped all the gi parts out.

2nd time was with a 38super and converted to 9mm. Same process swapped all gi bn oarts with upgraded parts.

3rd time was with 38super to 9m again but went the ms route/commander length.

All went fairly smooth but minor fitting with barrel hood and barrel lugs for lock uo3 and returning to battery. Slide to frame fitting will be needed as well. Most work was done with filing and some diamond paste of differant grits and alot of racking the slide sitting watching tv. It took me about 2 wks on and off but pro ably about 8-10hrs total of just fitting slowly with paste and filling. You can always take off but you cant add metal.

Thanks for the info. I was curious to know if it required fitting or if it was similar to a Glock where you just drop in everything. Sounds like it's definitely not drop in.

I would suggest looking for a ria tac ultra 2 they are probaly easier to find and will except most 45acp mags without modifying them to work with 10mm but remember a ten 10rd 45mag will hold 11rds of 10mm

Nothing 1911 is drop in.
Not for me anyway. I bought the HC GI A2, then the 10mm slide, mags, barrel etc. It might have fit if I could have gotten a entire GI top half. The barrels are different on the Tac Ultra which has a Para ramp, the GI frame needs to be cut for that to fit.

At this point I gave my gunsmith a box of parts (yes I was that guy), I asked for it to work and for it to be reliable. You could buy another pistol for what the gunsmithing cost, but it's worth it.

Find a Tac Ultra in Ca, or have one built, the difference in price will be negligible.

Did you not try a Rock Standard FS barrel and slide? They're also available in 10mm and seem to be a better fit for the GI.

Not available at the time. They seem to be hit and miss, better than Tangfolio for availability though.

To complete an 80% frame, you need either a mill or a frame rail cutter, a drill press and jig fixture.

The slide is for bull barrels only.
The barrel linked is not a bull barrel so it would not actually work in the slide that was linked.
Some assembly required...

Bad recommendations are not helpful.
