Do you need an appointment to drop off renewal paper work? I didn't see anything about it, only a need to call to setup the renewal class.

No appointment needed for paperwork.
Get your class date early. They are filling up fast.

Thanks.
Yeah, that was the first thing I did when I received the letter. I have a class date in May. I just got my Real ID drivers license in the mail, I was just waiting for that, and I am in the 90 day window now, so, time to make a day trip to the big city. Almost 100 miles one way, yuck.

Good morning everyone, another quick question. I recently updated my address through the dmv website. It says on the site for address changes a new card will NOT be sent out. Will this be an issue when I turn in my documents at my first interview?

Not so long as you have the DMV print out showing your new address.

Which means a trip to the DMV. It has to be on their paper with the DMV watermark.

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know that for those of you who have gone solar, SBSD is not accepting Tesla/Solar city or any other solar company bills as proof of residency. Sara at the San Bernardino office was very understanding of my situation ( I didnt have any other utilities in my name besides Tesla, LONG story..) and said I could still take my scheduled renewal class while I wait for my first gas bill in my name to come in.

Just turned in my paperwork for renewal yesterday.
Talked to the young lady at the window. She went thru my paperwork. Had me fill out the stuff they say to leave blank and not sign until you get there. Gave me a class date for the range to swap a weapon. Ensured I had a class date. Reminded me about the money order due at class. Told me not to miss either date so my permit could be processed on time.

In and out in 30 minutes, only because there were about 7 to 10 folks there for renewal or initial interviews.

Easy peasy.

Be advised on the weapons change... see my prior posts on the subject. It may result in you being without your LTC for a significant amount of time. Hopefully they've caught up.

My range date and class are >45 days from expiration.

But I would rather be without my permit for 2 weeks, seems to be the most time, than be restricted to 2 weapons for 2 yrs.

Lesser of the evils for me.

Hey guys, I went to the renewal class at central the other day. They mentioned that if you want to add a gun that you need to make an appointment. The range card and instructions that I received said no appointment was needed. However they had 50 ppl show up to the range i believe it was april 1st. It sounded like they were over whelmed. Just FYI.

They also mentioned that they make start using different venues that accommodate up to 500 ppl.

On the initial online CCW application submission do I absolutely have to list all three firearms with serial numbers and all or can that be done later (like during the interview)? I planned on purchasing a couple of pistols to list on the permit while I'm waiting for my interview.

You need your final gun list when you go to the range.
The sooner they have the list, the sooner they can run your guns.
List what you currently have/want to carry then add the rest at the range.

I'm not sure about that.

The only gun I listed on my application was my Sig P220. When I went to the range I took 3 completely different guns. I had my permit in 1 week.

Here is my renewal timeline with a weapons change:

Current permit expires: 5/1/19
Submitted Renewal Application: 2/15/19
Range Day: 3/2/12
Renewal Class: 3/12/19
New Permit received: 4/11/19

It looks like they are now caught up.

Be honest about the DUI. The job recommendation for ccw might be a problem

SBCSD does not issue CCW's for work.

Hi, does anyone know why backgrounds are taking so long for ccw. I had my interview first week of February and still haven’t heard anything. Just curious because buddy of mine interviewed week prior to me an already had his range day and got her permit issued to him

Same here but my interview was 1/11, I was told when doing my scans it will take 4-6 months. I'm hoping to hear back next month.

It’s my experience as well that they seem to be caught up on gun changes. I received my new card before my old one expired.

I bounced that around in my head, but the bottom line is that I do not know if or when I might need my weapon. I would have felt pretty stupid if I would have needed it during the lapse period. In any event, looks like they are caught up, that's good.

I agree with the not knowing when or where..........

Sad a United States citizen even needs to be confronted with such a choice....

Other than the power going out at the SBSD training center and having to move the class portion to their HQ, everything went smooth yesterday. Congrats to everybody that passed!

Pro tip: if you’re gonna qual a firearm as your ccw, make sure it’s one that you’ve put it through it’s paces and not a brand new one that you have never operated and jams (about 4 times) at the line

I see a lot of threads on this forum stating that SBCS's policy for CCW holders is to carry nothing greater than 10 rounds. I don't disbelieve this statement. But where on our paperwork/website/letter is this stated?

I’m seeing and hearing the same thing Mike. I’ve heard from people that they called the sheriffs dept office and were told this. As far as literature, I think it has yet to be published or created in light of freedom week.

I know everyone weighs their own risk and makes their choice, but I think you could make a strong argument that you were never informed of such policy should a situation reveal that you're carrying greater than 10rds. Not saying it's right or wrong, I'm just saying you can make a very strong argument if you were standing in front of a judge.

My instructor specifically stated that if we LEGALLY possess large capacity magazines, to please use them.

The problem (at the time) was that legal possession of larger magazines for most popular carry guns such as the G19 was pretty rare since they actually had to be purchased before the 1994 Federal ban.
Now, that is no longer the case, and the injunction barring possession is still in force even though we can not purchase after a couple of weeks ago.

It's a problem having multiple instructors... you get a slightly different story from each one, as each has a different interpretation of the law. My renewal class contained information that was in direct conflict with information provided at my original class (which was taught by the guy who wrote the training program).
Same with RDS. Apparently, at least one of the deputies working the range has a problem with RDS and will not allow you to qualify with it. Others have no problem. My instructor was using one at the time of my class and he said that he was still deciding if the added bulk was worth it, even carrying OWB.
But he was very clear that there were no prohibitions against, and actually encouraged modifications (installed by a pro) that improve accuracy.
My advice on that, qualify at the range with conventional sites and have the RDS installed after.

Ultimately, if it's not in writing, or marked as a restriction on the back of the license, there is no legal basis for a criminal charge based on "Deputy Jones said...". Depending on which detective reviews your incident, it COULD result in a revocation.

That question was brought up yesterday during class and the instructor said that Sheriff McMahon suggested not to carry mags greater than 10 because it’s a gray area at the moment.
