Default Monte Sereno "Safe Gun Storage" Ordinance

The Monte Sereno city council will consider a "safe gun storage" ordinance on Tuesday night, May 4 requiring residents to lock up their guns whenever they are not within arm's reach.

Several other local towns and counties have already adopted similar ordinances and more are likely to follow absent effective opposition.

We are looking for help not just with Monte Sereno and not just for "safe gun storage" ordinances but to oppose gun control generally.

We have done the research, but we need effective voices to counter the Bloomberg/Giffords ladies' dog and pony show.

If you would like to help out, please PM me ASAP.

Had a private chat with my local PD captain. I think the Giffords anti-gun radical group is going around every town/city/county harassing them and threatening legal action if city officials don't do what Giffords wanted.

Sooner or later they will come to your town. Don't wait for that.

Even if you do not know your city council members personally, drop then a line or an email or give them a call; all these things are pretty much 'done deals' before they come out as formal proposals.

Something like
I hear outsiders are asking council members in some cities to consider 'safe storage laws' for guns.

California already has mostly reasonable laws on the point, at Penal Code 25100 and following - https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/f...er=2.&article= and, the US Supreme Court has already ruled on extreme versions of such laws in 2007, DC v Heller including
Quote:
The handgun ban and the trigger-lock requirement (as applied to self-defense) violate the Second Amendment .
Be sure to note that the proponents of these laws never offer to indemnify the city/county against lawsuits, and that money could be spent on police/'community organizers' instead of lawyers.

If (when) this passes, everyone should be answering your door with a handgun on your hip or a long gun in hand (or both). If it has to be within arms reach, that is just about the only way to do it.

Just curious, how is a city ordinance like this charged? Is this criminal or just a fine from the city?

Cities/counties can create violations (tickets) and misdemeanors (jail time) plus fines for either or both.

Maybe.

Where does "in your house" run up against "visible to the public" when it comes to being on private property and when does "legal carry" become "brandishing?"

That's not being facetious or sarcastic. That's pointing out that, if "they" want to get you, there are ways, even when you think you are meeting the "letter of the law." Or, more accurately, the above questions are not necessarily the purview of the 'authority at the door' to 'sort out' and, thus... "You might beat the charge, but you can't beat the ride." ... becomes advice to ponder.

Well, it passed. No one came out to speak against this.

If we let all of these laws be passed with no objections, we'll have no one to blame but ourselves.
