Default Death in the family - how to transfer firearm?

TLDR:
Unfortunately, my mothers best friends husband passed away from covid 2 weeks ago.

long story short, the husband had a Beretta 92fs he had stored away for years, and now the newly widowed auntie wants to transfer it to me. We are not blood related and i assume since she is next of kin, she automatically owns the pistol now...

Can anyone walk me through the process of how to transfer the firearm to her, then FFL it to me?

Who ever is the executor of the estate (Assuming they are a CA Resident) can meet you at our store and facilitate a Private Party Transfer. If you need further explanation, please feel free to call us at 949-209-6413
