Pig and Deer Hunting Parkfield August 21-23, 2009

Well here are the pics from my pig and deer hunting trip. The hunt was on a big ranch between San Miguel and Parkfield that we've hunted a few times before. Last year my father and I got our bucks in the first two days but this year we didn't even get a shot at one. We did see about ten pigs and I got a shot at this 180lb boar on Friday right before dark.

This was about 80 yards away up a hill. I had to shoot under some low trees so I laid prone and squeezed off with the .30-06 (had just gotten the gun, a Remington 770, a week before) and got it right in the mid back near the spine. It dropped and let out a huge squeal. I followed up with a shot that got him right behind the shoulder.

We climbed up the hill and I kid you not it took at least three more shots with my Dan Wesson .357 in the head to finish it off. One very tough pig. Here's the pics.

A view of the ranch

I think my dad was happier than I was

Got it all cut up yesterday and made ribs last night. I'll be breaking out the meat grinder tomorrow for sausage.

When you're talking about 3-5 (mostly out of shape) fathers leading 15 or 20 12-16year olds on a 50 mile backpack trip - yeah it takes 5 or 6 days. Especially when doing so in the High Sierra (8,000+ feet elevation).

Actually at the time I was one of the scouts. But I've spent time as an adult with scouts as well.

Where's the deer archery photos? I don't feel so bad not seeing any success now.

nope not blackhawk. its the gated community i live in, in south orange county. the course rangers will tell you to leave at worst, they have no authority. besides half the golfers fish there too so as long as you're not in their way they dont care.

That gated community has their own police station haha. But yeah it was def. against the rules....but all we pulled out of there were 4+lbers all day. It was crazy seeing bentleys and lambo's while i was fishing. I think they poisoned that pond though because after a while there werent any more fish. We were the only ones that ever fished it and we through everything back

I guessed this sow to be bettween 250 and 275lbs. We cought a boar about 20 minutes after this pic was taken.
