Default Frontier 500/500 @ 39.99?!?!?!?!!?

Spoke with a lady at Cardenas pushing their ISP, so I went to their web page (in a private window, of course):

I am a legacy user with 85/85 for about $68/month.
I cannot select any changes to the account on their web page.

I rarely burn more than 10Mbps at a time, but for downloads 500Mbps sounds GREAT!

Any Idea how to jump on this Trump-train, has anybody switched/upgraded w/out grief?

Well the picture says "call today and save" so maybe try giving them a call? Not being facetious, I'm serious. Many times actual people over the phone can do things for you that you can't do via a website. That's usually how you get the best deals. That's a great price for 500 Mbit symmetric. I'd do my best to get it if I were you. As a current customer they should be interested in retaining you, so if they give you grief about giving you the deal, tell them fine, you're switching to company X and to please cancel your service right away. You'll be surprised how quickly they can suddenly give you the deal.

You'll probably have to talk to someone in their Retention Department but if you do - have a plan. I just went through this with them when I cut the cord and dropped their TV service and was told that the $39 plus fees and taxes is for one year and for new customers only. They offered me 500:500 at their regular price at roughly $100 plus router rental, I don't recall the exact number. When I stated truthfully that I was seriously considering switching to the local cable company's $50 400:? service they handed me off to retention who got this down to $80 total for one year $. I did have to pay $10 for them to ship me a new faster rental router to get that 500:500, their old router topped out at 200Mb.

One thing that didn't occur to me was does my old ONT support faster than 100Mbps?

Anyone know about ONT models, and the like?

I got them to give me the 500/500 for the same price as my old 200/200 for 12 months.

The only issue I've had: My bill will be right for 3 months, then it jumps. I have to call the Retention Dept, they adjust my bill and credit the overage. Then about 3 months later, repeat.

They tell me straight out to call about 1 month before the promotional pricing is scheduled to end to renegotiate the deal. So far, it's worked fine. I've been with them since FiOS was owned by Version, and I always go to the Spectrum website to see what the latest deals are, so I have 'ammo' for the price war, haha!!

BTW: Loving the 500/500. Very fast, rock solid and stable.

They did have to run a dedicated CAT6 cable from the service entrance to my router, but they did that at no cost.

I asked the tech what they go to now, they said 1000/1000, but that very few sites can supply that speed.

It's funny to think that in 10 years, talking abut 1000/1000 as 'fast' will seem like talking about 56k being fast back in the day, haha!!

500 MBPS for residential? I’m guessing very few people would EVER Max that out. I highly doubt any single residential user would even be able to see 500 on a single connection.

My original ONT was GtG...they ran an ethernet cable from the ONT (has an Ethernet jack) to the router.

They were able to use the existing wiring that was part of my house (built in 2003, so it had an ethernet run from the ONT to the media niche in the Family Room).

They wanted to charge $79 for the install, I said "Come on!! You're going to get HOW MUCH from me for the next 12 months???" and they said, "OK, we'll waive the fee." haha!!

Residential gigabit fiber here, and I can easily see my connection fully saturated. When you have massive data sets to transfer to remote servers, a huge pipe comes in real handy. It's nothing for me to transfer terabytes of data at once. Granted your are right, very few people would really utilize that much, but some of us absolutely do, and on a fairly regular basis.

I called in, and got upgraded to 500MBps/500MBps (MegaBytesPerSecond, and I clarified with the guy "MegaBytes per second, or MegaBits" per second, and it is MegaBytes he assured me.
My ONT supports this speed, he stated, and I verified w/him 3x verbally.

Looks like I am moving a heavy desk and repunching the split 100Mbps line so it'll support Gigabit Ethernet to the computer room, again...

He couldn't give me new customer pricing, and couldn't tell me what it would go up to after a year contract, but he initially wanted 79/month, but after I asked some questions on pricing, I got it to $74/month for a year, to get the upgrade sale...

This should kick-in at about midnight, so we'll see what I get tomorrow morning...

Before I bought or rented any home, since FiOS came out, I made sure that was avail. at the residence, as I KNEW speeds like this were eventually coming...

It's En route, but for now... asymmetrical...?

BUT WAIT...THERE's MOAR...
I had to back it down to my prior speed as the goober on the phone said that my ONT supported 500/500, and he was wrong, causing downed service for incompatibility for like a day, 4 calls in, and finally I got a guy who knows his job and figured it out, going above and beyond! 1st guy didn't give a crap, had no clue what he was doing and blamed my router. I got hung-up on for calls 2&3... Had to tether to the phone's WiFi for that day...

The newer ONT is installed, and I can switch to 500/500, but apparently we aren't done yet...
BUT WAIT, THERE'S EVEN MOAR-MOAR:
Somehow (maybe for my troubles?) I got new customer pricing @$39.99/month for 500/500, and 49.99/month after the first year... when I called to make the switch back up, w/the ONT compatibility no longer an issue.

I am finally moving up in the world, with a hell-of-a-price to boot!!!
I WAS supposed to pay $10 MOAR/month, but ended up SAVING $347.88 the 1st year, and $227.88 the subsequent years (because of their screw up?)... for 500/500 Mbps,
& oh, PLUS TAXES!!!

Time to feed that reloading press!!!

Agreed, and it looks like they flipped the switch fully today after I left for work...
and THIS is close enough for the girls I went out with...

EDIT: I just downloaded a 2.5GB Knoppix 6.1 ISO @ >40MBytes/Sec.

Capped at about 54-55MByes/Sec, then creeped back down to about 40MB/sec... sustained.

A torrent of the same ISO capped at about 45MB/sec, sustained at about 44MB/sec.

that $10 monthly 'router fee' really irks me. Not to mention all the other crap fees they tack on.

Shouldn't be an issues, as I am using my own, and if I see this fee on my first bill, I cloned the Mac on my new router to prevent BS...

$40/MONTH isn't bad for 500/500... Nor is the 50/month next year...

I didn't see an option to negate the "router rental" fee. Please keep me posted

Once they actually make the announcement is the time to get out if you don’t want a new contract forced on you. You can only break the contract for free once the entity has declared Ch. 11.

I really don't get why Fiber is a losing game for Verizon, now Frontier...
Where is the money going?

Verizon probably saw the writing on the wall for streaming TV, but WTPhrik Frontier?

Fiber is a poor fit for municipal-scale networks, simple as that. Construction, migration, accidents where cut, rerouting at the whim of BOSs, etc. The companies that maintain the fiber have to deal with all of that, and that fiber is less-tolerant of changes in situ and more expensive when necessary.

Contrast to long-haul and demarc’d fiber where the scope is smaller and there is less change over time, or more change but less rigid demands for routing physical cable.

Copper is much easier to work with in a metro scenario. Verizon’s goal was to replace all the copper with fiber. Once landlines stopped being a thing, half of their market evaporated over a few years.

There’s no money in building new residentially-subsidized broadband infrastructure, and all new service will be wireless in under ten years.

For businesses that still want fixed wireline service, more are choosing long-haul Ethernet to hubs, in only a few locations, which uses fiber only from the DMARC, or even twisted pair, rather than trenched fiber, unless they pay themselves to light it up.

Fiber proponents thought it would be cheap to light up every building, and that’s proven to be a bad, and money-losing, assumption.

I have this internet speed and I don't understand how it sucks so much. Honestly I had better service with Spectrum's 200 internet. My phone randomly stops getting wifi and I have to turn the wifi setting on and off for it to work again. When watching Youtube on my TV's, it takes a while for the image to render to 720+ quality. It's a good thing I didn't get in contract with them, I'm on month to month.

That sounds like a premises equipment issue, not a problem with the service, per se.

You aren't using their supplied router, are you?
Don't, if you don't have to (unless it comes in to your feed COAX, not Ethernet).

Are you running the router on a UPS (true sine wave UPS that is)?
If not, this might be your problem...
I stopped having weird issues where I had to reboot my router when I put a UPS on it YEARS ago, and this was in early 802.11G-router days.

Have you checked to see what other devices are on your router, other than what you know about?
