That is the exact reason why I still renew mine. Hopefully you'll get yours before the trip.

Renewal is in the mail they said. Almost three months for me.
After 75 days you may have to goose them by email.

I emailed my packet 12/27 and 10 days later it was back at my house requesting an updated doc, not bad... hope they process it as quickly when they get it the second time around

We leave mid Mar on a long trip back east, sure would be nice to have it in hand when we leave

Good luck all

This is why you get multiple states with overlapping effective dates.

They accept a CA training cert IF they 'uses instructors who are certified by the national rifle association'.
The requirements are spelled out on their site.

So I mailed my renewal on 12/28/22 and they postmarked my permit envelope 1/9/23.

That's like a 7 business days if my form arrived right away, including the holiday!

It does NOT need to be an NRA course, as long as the course is taught by an NRA instructor. His NRA instructor number should be listed on the certificate. If it’s not, that’s probably why they didn’t accept it.

To answer your second question, yes. It was in the link (list of appropriate training) Lady Ruger posted:

Quote:
6. A valid current or expired concealed weapon, firearm or handgun permit or license that is issued by another state or a political subdivision of another state and that has a training or testing requirement for initial issuance.

I was trying to get my AZ ccw in the mean time since I already had done the training but did not receive my CA ccw yet.
My training certificate for Orange County CCW had no reference to the NRA and they accepted it though I also attached a copy of my CCW.

The point is, they knew I had no "NRA" training.

The don't care if you've had NRA training or not, they care if you meet the statutory requirement needed to issue you an AZ CCW.

Any training from an NRA instructor is grounds for approval of that 'checkbox'
Any issued CCW for which training was required is also grounds for approval for that same 'checkbox'

No the point is they used your CCW to meet the requirement NOT your training cert.

Correct. His CCW copy made the training cert irrelevant.

Quite the silly policy, considering proof of a CA CCW is valid, but the training is not. This is bad for people who want to get their AZ before their CA, since CA can take up to a year.

Forewarning to those looking to apply to AZ before their CA is issued.
There are multiple choices for satisfying the requirement:
N. An applicant shall demonstrate competence with a firearm through any of the following:

1. Completion of any firearms safety or training course or class that is available to the general public, that is offered by a law enforcement agency, a junior college, a college or a private or public institution, academy, organization or firearms training school and that is approved by the department of public safety or that uses instructors who are certified by the national rifle association.

2. Completion of any hunter education or hunter safety course approved by the Arizona game and fish department or a similar agency of another state.

3. Completion of any national rifle association firearms safety or training course.

4. Completion of any law enforcement firearms safety or training course or class that is offered for security guards, investigators, special deputies or other divisions or subdivisions of law enforcement or security enforcement and that is approved by the department of public safety.

5. Evidence of current military service or proof of honorable discharge or general discharge under honorable conditions from the United States armed forces.

6. A valid current or expired concealed weapon, firearm or handgun permit or license that is issued by another state or a political subdivision of another state and that has a training or testing requirement for initial issuance.

7. Completion of any governmental police agency firearms training course and qualification to carry a firearm in the course of normal police duties.

8. Completion of any other firearms safety or training course or class that is conducted by a department of public safety approved or national rifle association certified firearms instructor.

As others said, the hologram is gone.
Guess it’s cheaper to make them and counterfeits were just not a concern.

For you CA CCW holders using that as proof of proficiency. Did you make a copy of the paper permit or the card?

The card, front and back, should suffice.

My renewal is in today's outgoing mail - 91 days prior to expiration. IIRC I read someone on the app or the website that they will reject applications for renewal earlier than 90 days.

New permit was 22 days for me.
When I had called to check on the status the nice lady told me it was approved and “sent out” 5 days prior. This worried me since I hadn’t received it in the mail - I thought it might have been lost.
I’d imagine it was sitting approved in a pile somewhere and she then mailed it after I checked because it then came the following day.

Yes because they cashed my money order and I waited a week and a half for it to show up - when it hadn’t yet, I called.
Plus everyone I knew was getting theirs in 10-20 days.

I called the Arizona dps yesterday and did a status check on my renewal. She put me a hold for a minute. When she came back on the phone, she told me my permit would be mailed out today. So I'm estimating the end of this week or early next week. We shall see.

Just because they cashed your money order does not mean your renewal had been processed. It means they opened the envelope and started the process.

I received a letter yesterday that my license was about to expire in about 10 days. However I had mailed my renewal application in about 3 weeks ago. So I was worried it might not have been received. So I called them up and waited 30 minutes online before I got to talk to someone. I explained my situation and told the girl I would normally not be calling but was concerned that my app might have gotten lost. The Lady was very rude and said yes your app has been received on January 26th. So I said it must be almost ready right she rudely said no its still in backround. I asked how long does that usually take and was told there was a long list and she had no idea. Rather than irritate her any more I just said OK I will just wait since at least I know its in process and hung up.
All of this is way different than the original time I applied 5 yrs ago and counter to what I have been reading here on this forum. I know during Covid they were backed up but based on the reports here it seemed that most apps only take 3 to 4 wks even for the original. This is a renewal and I would have thought it would be easier and faster since they already have me in there system and I am an old fart with no record or anything in my past that would prevent me or should cause any issues.
Its not an urgency since I only need it to travel to Nevada occasionally since my Ca Permit is only good In CA, Plus in Nevada you can carry a loaded firearm in your car with or without a permit you just cant concealed carry in public without one.

Goodafternoon, printed out the application for AZ and couldnt find any info where to get the fingerprint cards they require. Called Oc sheriff’s dept if they provide the card for finger printing, i was told that i need to being in the card myself. How were you guys able to obtain the fingerprint card for AZ? Thanks in advance 🙏

It may be helpful to post your location so people can refer you where to get them.

You can also order them on Amazon.
