In round 1 I looked over months of posts on the CMP forum. I was able to anticipate my call within about 2-3 weeks accuracy. At that time they were getting through about 300 per week. Keep in mind some people pass and some miss the calls and miss their chance.

My wife is in round 2 and her number is in the 32k range. I figure about a year for hers.

Are all calls coming from the single phone number of (256) 770-4744 or are they coming from something like (256) 770-47xx?
I like the idea of putting the single phone number in my contact list.

Default Service Grade

RGN 21196. Got the call on the 6th and selected Service Grade. They didn't ship until the 10th. My FFL called on the 12th to let me know it was ready.

Colt slide on an Ithaca frame. SN shows it was shipped 3 Mar 1944 to the Oakland Navy Supply Depot. I'm anxious to get it home and do a complete disassembly.

Dangitt! My number is a little lower than yours. I was hoping for the call today so I could get my FFL stuff sorted out before end of the weekend!

RGN 21082 notified April 6. Service Grade ordered May 5. DROS Started today.

Remington Rand Frame and Slide. Serial number 1526xxx. 1943/44 depending on website. Will need to do some more research.

my only real issue right now is I will be out of town on day 10 so it will be 17 days before I can pick it up.

Was RGN 21280, got my call on the 10th, gun was at my ffl on the 12th. I requested a service grade, any manufacturer as long as the frame and slide were the same.

Was told they stopped taking those type of requests because people were requesting very specific things and when they didn’t get exactly what they asked for, they returned their 1911’s back to the CMP. Basically little babies throwing their tantrums ruined it for everyone else.

I received a beautiful Remington Rand frame AND slide!! Serial number has it made in late 1944. I am ecstatic with what I got!!

Field grade; hoping for the older finish and character?

Got an rgn of 235xx on the 8th.
Maybe 6 weeks?

Pretty much, yea. Looking at all the pictures of them showing up around the internet, the Service are all very nice and the Racks are nice enough, but the description of Rack potentially needing "repair" turns me off, even though I'm sure they're all fine. I'm hoping for an original finish, as early of a frame as possible, matching of course would be nice, etc etc etc. But fully functional and beat down but with clear markings would make me the happiest. I'm sure I'll be quite happy with ANYthing they send though!

RGN 21,465. Selected service grade.

Received Colt slide on a remington rand frame.

Definitely shows a decent amount of holster wear, and is in dire need of a good cleaning.

Overall satisfied with my 1st C&R transaction. Felt so good to waive the 10 day wait.

Unfortunately yes, came out to $92 + transfer fees. Wasn't sure if I had a leg to stand on, and honestly just wanted to hurry it along... should I be looking for another FFL for next time?

Just wondering why they charge tax on a 1911 when there is no tax on a garand?

And the CMP is a non-profit organization

There is also tax on a Garand when transferred via a CA FFL, unless you have it shipped to your door.

CA FFLs are required to collect sales tax.

And their non profit status has nothing to do with it. You will also note that CMP even charges sales tax directly for some state residents
https://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/ordering-information/

Quote:
ABOUT SALES TAX

Ohio residents add 7% tax. Alabama residents add 4% tax. Anniston residents add 10% tax.
Now when it comes to a CA FFL actually collecting sales tax, that is a big YMMV. But in the majority of cases it will be collected. If you got a pass one time on a tax bill, consider yourself lucky but don't consider it the norm.

Finally picked mine up...

Service Grade
1945 Remington Rand frame

From barrel date arsenaled sometime in the 90's.

IMI slide, wide hammer, one Korean War Keyes grips, and Mec-Gar mag...

that what I've found so far...

It's tight... Think I like my other RR a little better...

I'll add pics in a few...

The CMP shouldn't have sold all of those GI magazines awhile ago, then they wouldn't be buying Mecgar magazines now.

It was a great deal, I also ordered the limit and most are still in the sealed GI wraps. It is sort of ironic they are now having to acquire magazines.

I think I found one like that too. It was minor surface rust, I decided they would still be more valuable left in the sealed wrap though.

I also have some M9 mags in the wrap and a few I have opened, and they also don't stay pristine even when sealed. Better to keep them stored somewhere dry even if they are in the wrap.

Took a look at my service grade when starting the dreaded 10 day wait.

1944 RR frame with a Colt slide. This thing has some serious character and DEFINITELY was used, shot and carried in a holster for a good long while. Lots of holster wear and the post war GI contract barrel that has a good deal of wear on it.

There are no arsenal rebuild marks though clearly it' been rebuild. It may have been refinished once at some point, but the slide and frame seem to have the same patina, so who knows when that was done.

I took a chance with a service grade because I wanted the "been there, done that", look and the CMP delivered exactly that!

Looks like they're all out of service grades at the moment. Reports show field and rack are the only grades being offered at currently.

Must have JUST happened. There have been a few people reporting they were only offered field and rack on the CMP 1911 forum. Looks like they were all contacted on 5/25/21.

I'm at 23,500 or so, maybe only rack by then? I hope not.

It seems they go in phases. Maybe they open a few crates and sell those off, and towards the end of those crates only the lower grades are available. Then a week later they open up some more crates and start the process all over again with all three grades available. So it is hard to predict what you may be offered down the road.
