Default Marmot Minimalist Gore Tex Jacket: $74.99

Note: I suspect this is what is left of "last year's" model as there is also a current version available for $189. Accordingly not all colors and sizes are available but they still have mediums, large, and XL available in the black at the time of posting this.

This is a bare bones, basic shell but it's a great piece at a fantastic price if you're looking for a basic "windbreaker" type jacket...on steroids...given it's GoreTex Paclite. I have this jacket by the way and it's excellent for what it is.

Many reviews suggest that it isn't really waterproof at all.

I ran into this with another "famous" brand that claimed their product was "waterproof and yet breathable".

It was neither...

This jacket holds up nicely. Wouldn't count on it in a Pacific northwest downpour... but if you get stuck out in "it", this thing is your best friend for a couple of days. Super packable too.

This is a great jacket, simple yet elegant, at a great price.
It is more than enough for the general S Ca climate.
I bought one very similar to this model a couple of months back while traveling and paid much more than this but am still happy with it.
You will like Marmot if you appreciate quality.

Marmot quality has gone up and down over the years, 20ish years ago their jackets and pants were bombproof, then there were spells of up and down. Lately the value Pre Cip line is good for a while, then wets through or the membrane starts coming off.
I have a pair of mtn type ski pants I've have for 10 years and they are still great.
They still have a pretty awesome warranty though, it takes time to process, but they typically take really good care of you if their stuff fails before it should.

Almost every review says itís not actually waterproof and that youíll get soaked if you actually use it in the rain. Overpriced garbage.

Did yours leak? I wore mine in heavy rain this weekend and it stayed perfectly dry. The water beaded off and no seams leaked.

I'm very happy with this lightweight shell.

ETA - the sale price of $75 is gone; it is $114 now.
