Properly twisted 223. At least 1:8
Ton of cheaper bulk ammo for trigger time. Once she really gets into it, you can get the heavier pills to get further out. No need for bull barrel with 223, and she can also use it for for deer/hogs.
6.5 isn’t bad, it’s the ammo availability and price that have doubled or tripled last couple of years. Unless you reload.
The new 6 PRC looks pretty bad a*s.
I don’t like how ruger Americans feel, and my axis isn’t much better.
My TC venture is smooth and solid and keeps up with my tikka.

Ruger predator fits all of that perfectly except that they don't offer it in a left hand version.
The 223 uses a 1:8 twist and is mid-weight.

What do you guys think of the Howa M1500 HS percision?

Better then the Remington 700 SPS Varmint, or another 700 that doesn't have a 26" barrel?

If you want to shoot it just how it comes, it's a fine gun.
If you want to swap out parts and tinker with it, go with a 700.

Also watch your twist rates carefully on varmint weight guns.
Some are made to actually shoot varmint weight bullets and have slow twists while others have proper twist rates for real target bullets if you primarily are using it for target shooting.

I’ll have her shoot my Remington again to see if she can get comfortable with a right hand action but she definitely did better shooting left handed.

Not to jack the string here, but in 223/5.56 what does the 1:8 give you that you can't have with a 1:9? Sincere question here. I am thinking about finding a CZ 527, the one with the Mannlicher stock, and the later ones come with 1:9. Thanks.

I was wondering about this, as well. My savage .223 has a 1:9 twist. it is very accurate and with 69 gr bullets it will shoot 1 MOA at 100 yds all day long.

It depends on the barrel length and how hot you load your ammo and the density of the air you are shooting in.
A 16" 1:9 typically won't stabilize bullets over 69gr.
A 16" 1:8 will stabilize 69, 75 and some 77gr non-VLD bullets but certainly not 80's or VLD's.
A 20" 1:9 will stabilize 69, 75 and some 77gr non-VLD bullets but certainly not 80's or VLD's.
A 20" 1:8 will stabilize 80gr and almost all VLD's.
A 24" 1:9 will stabilize 80gr and almost all VLD's.
A 24" 1:8 will stabilize everything up through about 85gr.

You want her to be comfortable so get it in left hand unless it is unobtainable.
It is for a lady shooter who doesn't like recoil so don't worry about the twist rate. Have her shoot 55 grains or less bullets so there is less felt recoil.
Don't turn down a 8 twist barrel as it will still shoot lightweight bullets but if 12 twist is available get it and get her shooting.
In my humble opinion the only reason for heavy bullets in a 223 is for class limitations or not wanting to spend extra money on a 6mm rifle.

Well, you're doing the right thing by doing your homework first. She's got to feel comfortable with it, and she's got to enjoy it. After safety, that's, to me, the most important thing, having her enjoy it so she wants to keep doing it.

Just this last weekend, we had a customer come in with his 10-year-old son. Kiddo had never shot a rifle before and wanted to try it. Dad worked him up from a 22LR (our rental Ruger 10/22) to an AR-15 with 5.56 NATO ammo. This proved to be wise. When they walked off the range, the kid had this mile-wide grin on his face. The low recoil of the M193 ammo (55 gr) certainly had a lot to do with that. He can't wait to do it again! His Dad was, naturally, very happy with this.

So, yeah, don't worry so much about twist rates right now, not for her first rifle. Her comfort behind the rifle is the major consideration. And for that, any rifle that fits her will work just fine.
