Where in Montana? I’m in the Missoula area. I don’t really work with these guys but there are times they need our help with removing an animal. From my short conversations with them, they seem to have their plate full, but doable.
The criminals in this area don’t seem to be as crazy as those in California. The real crazy ones do pop up here and there, but they don’t clog up the newsfeed. |

Hunting is pretty decent in eastern Montana. An old coworker of mine just got back from Miles City with some critters. Between him and a couple of other people: 4 whitetails, 2 turkeys and a handful of grouse. All within a week.
It gets a little cold in Montana. This week we had lows in the negatives. Make sure she buys a good coat, gloves and boots for the winter time. Billings is a growing city and should have every amenity she needs. Montanans are pretty friendly and as long as she doesn’t bring a California (assuming she is moving from cali) mentality and truly enjoys freedom, she’ll fit right in. Other than that, I really can’t help too much with your original question because of how far away Billings is from me. I wish her the best though. |

She and family moved there a couple years ago, so they're all adapted!
Husband is a hunter, and now so is she, as well as game-disassembler. Been waiting for youngest to be in school so she could work. Thanks. |

Just an update.
Daughter called last night; she has started her P&P job in Billings. They already gave her a badge, plate carrier and soft armor, holster, phone, laptop, a couple polo shirts. MT has been using S&W .40 pistols, but they're migrating as of Feb - choice of Glock 19 (9mm) and Glock 23 (.40). So, gun issue still to come. Lots of firearms trainers in her building. So far it has been on-boarding paperwork and a required class for everyone in the office, using the offender assessment tools. Seems like a good thing for a newbie to know. First year has standard 8-5 5 days a week. After that, possible to switch to 4 days of 10 hours. And real hours, well, those can be variable. She says she likes the people and the office atmosphere.
