Its just an R-25 jazzed up a bit but she looks great and shoots even beter.
Looking to take her hunting for a few hogs once I find her favorite ammo.
Right now its Fed Gold Match 168 BTHP with 1" 5 shot groups at 100 yards.

Thanks in advance.

Added a few goodies to the AR308:

KNS Hammer and Trigger Pin 2nd Generation
Geissele Super Semi Automatic Enhanced Two Stage Trigger

I've only shoot it once so far with the new trigger, and OMG what a difference. It's nice to know precisely when the hammer is going to drop. The second stage 1.2 pound pull is a dream come true.

I'll probably swap out the bi-pod in the future for a non rotating like the Harris 1A2-BR. I'll put the Harris S-BRM on my hunting rig.

The canting after each shot is a little annoying.

BTW I've nick named this rig "the friend maker". Because anyone I've let shoot it is now my friend, LOL. People literally stop and start taking videos and pictures when I, or a new friend goes live at the range with this beast.

Here's a few pictures of the upgrades.

Haven't take her out yet. one last picture befor she become a big bundle of Magpul koolaide. I was planning a Featuress build hance the Vltor rifle stock. then, it turn out to be a bench gun.
I think a true pistol grip might be more stable then a grip-wrap (my opinion only) I happen to find a Magpul PRS on sale, so one last picture before the switch.

Mega Ma-ten, 18" DPMS SASS w/ bolt, $99 gas block, Armalite AR10 LPK, DPMS Bolt hold-open (Armalit's don't work.. doh) JP free-float with DPMS-type Barrel nut, PWS brake, Millet DMS-1 and Harris Bipod.

with this matched receiver set i don't think i can switch the upper to a... say fulton side-charging?

Anyone use a raddlock on their lower? I'm
Having problems with mine. I was told to buy an extended bolt catch (ar10 style vs ar15)

Can anyone comment on the length of the mag catch (threaded area)

I've read that the raddlock doesn't fit well in the mega due to the shallow depth of the mag release hole so I didn't even try one. The mega build thread on ar15.com seemed to conclude that the dpms 308 bolt catch functioned best so that's what I went with. I've ran c-products and pmags with no problems.

The Tango Down bipods are good and light. They are easy to activate...but a little more difficult to extend the legs.

Default New Upper

Built a new upper for mine in the quest to shed some weight while still retaining the long range capability.

Old Upper:

-18" DPMS SASS Barrel
-SI Defense Upper Receiver
-Troy 13.8 MRF Rail
-BSA 4-14X44 Tactical MRAD Scope
-UTG Max Strength QD Rings (6 Bolt)
-Darkmetal Design HK Style Muzzle Brake
-Caldwell XLA 6-9" Pivot Bipod

New Upper:

-16" Rainier Arms "Select" Barrel
-Surplus Ammo Upper Receiver (Had to file the channel out to fit CH and BCG)
-GRG MFG Handguard
-Sightmark 2.5-10X32 Mil Dot Scope
-UTG Max Strength QD Rings (6 Bolt)
-Carlson Comp Muzzle Brake
-B&T Lightweight Polymer Bipod

I haven't weighed it yet, but it is easily lighter than the SASS barreled upper by several pounds. I'd guess the overall weight now minus mag is around 10-11 pounds. Recoil is definitely more pronounced. I know the weight has an affect on this, but I'm also thinking the Carlson Comp is maybe not as effective as advertised. The muzzle definitely stays down when fired, but recoil is pretty stout.

I was a bit leary about the Rainier barrel. It was cheap of course, but with good reviews. I noticed the throat area in the chamber of mine was reamed un-evenly just a bit, so I was skeptical about it's potential accuracy. I also have a 5.56 barrel from them that doesn't shoot worth a damn, so I wasn't expecting much from this one either. As it turns out, this thing is retardedly accurate. At least on par with the SASS barrel, if not slightly more accurate. The 1-11 twist also stabilizes the heavier 190 grain SMK's that I like to shoot, which I didn't think it would. The barrel has definitely exceeded my expectations, it even makes consitent hits at 1000 yards. I was pretty sure it wouldn't be able to push out that far, but after ringing steel repeatedly at 650 yards I gave it a try at the 18"x11" plate at 1000 yards. It shoots as well at that distance as my Savage 10FP McMillan does, making hits about 50% of the time. I think putting a better muzzle brake and a bipod with tilt ability on it should improve that a bit. Also thinking about going with an adjustable gas block as this thing is horribly over-gassed when shooting 190's.

I've been thinking about building an AR-10 for a while and this thread has inspired me to go for it. You guys have some awesome setups!!

Lower
I think I will be building a DPMS Lower bullet button fixed mag using CMMG LPK with Stage 2 trigger. I'll Also be using the CMMG A1 stock assembly.

Upper
Since I have zero experience with building uppers I will be getting the complete DPMS LR-308 SST Bull Barrel upper

*Furniture will include Ergo DLX grip with Palm Shelf, Magpul PRS Stock, Harris Bipod, optics still in the air right now

And where can I buy the Magpul Pmags 10/20??
Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Just finished my build. I'll give a range report when I can get away from the family and get some trigger time.

Upper: 20" POF P308 complete
Lower: POF P308 NP3 complete
Optic: VortexViper PST 4.5-20x50

Geissele SSA-E trigger and Spikes tactical LPK
Raddlock bullet button
Magpul MIAD grip and PRS stock

Pic came out upside down for some reason??? Anyone know why or how to edit this to get it right?

Default Awesome Rigs out there! Thanks for everyone sharing on their builds...

Well, I've been away for some time from this site and just looked over at all these awesome .308 rigs out there... AWESOME projects out there, glad to see all the input on this thread, hoped it has helped many out there to get their projects going on the correct path. It's nice to see all these "long range-reach out and touch someone" projects.

Thanks for everyone putting in the time to share and help out your fellow Cal-gunners out there!

Semper Fi,

Eddie

Changed some stuff around on the 308:

Replaced the Ergo palm shelf grip with a Magpul MOE in the interest of making it a bit more compact. Added some stippling with a wood burning iron.

Replaced the Carlson Comp I had originally installed with one of the new YHM Phantom muzzle brakes. The YHM's bore is a bit tighter and it seems VERY efficient at stripping gas away as the bullet passes though it. Muzzle blast from the sides is brutal

I also swapped out the Brugger & Thommet lightweight bipod for a Caldwell XLA 6-9" pivot model bipod. The B&T bipod lacked the ability to effectively level out the rifle on uneven terrain. I was digging out dirt from under one leg to even things out, but the recoil from the rifle was pushing the bipod leg out of the depression I had dug for it. It was pretty annoying, hence the switch to the pivoting bipod.

The rifle is also sporting a chopped/pinned 10 round 308 Pmag. With the shorter Magpul pistol grip especially, the full length 20 round mag body was hitting the ground before the pistol grip. It was limiting my ability to shoot at an upward angle. When you are lobbing 190's out of a 16" barrel, turns out everything is at an upward angle

I think this is pretty close to final version for this one. The only other changes I plan on making are switching to an adjustable gas block, and maybe adding a set of 45 degree iron sights (Scope sits to low to run folding BUIS under it):

JP recommends a break-in of about 40 rounds.

(5 rounds then clean) x 4

then

20 rounds then clean x 1
