For sure, the one on the right looks much better IMO. What all are the differences? How high can you cut an undercut trigger without messing with the integrity of the frame? I like a THIN frame with thin grips, and a high high undercut trigger guard personally.

I think the dimples should be overlapping by a litte amount. Yours seem to be clearing each other. I believe you should change the spacing slightly. If they overlap, you will get those high points between each 4

Hi, I could do it too, just put bigger ball end mill and will be overlapping.

I think it would actually be better to stay with a smaller endmill and tighten up the spacing.
Is that a 3/16" ball now with about 1/16" of cut depth?

I was just guessing your setup based on the reflections.
Some of the other golf ball treatments are probably 1/8" with .040" depth or so from the looks of them then as they show more depth of cut in the protrusions that are left between the cuts.

Most of 1911 Pistolsmith use a lot different treatments. This is not my work.

That's what I'm talking about!
Also note that when 100% of the surface is machined with the ball cuts that you do not need to true the frame before you start doing ball cuts as long as your ball cuts are deep enough to clean out any low spots in the frame.
That's probably part of why other shops are doing it that way.

The intersections of the ball cuts are giving a better grip than the golf ball cuts that all terminate in the plane of the frame because the angles of the intersecting cuts are twice as steep as the angle of the edge of a single dimple at the surface of the grip frame plane.

i know it isn't technically a 1911 (but close) could you do that dragon skin or honeycomb checkering to a CZ tactical sport?

If your considering having some 1911 work done form JRCP, I would gladly provide a great reference. I have several 1911 type guns and I wanted my 1990s stainless Combat Commander updated and more user friendly.

I had front strap checked, a new beavertail installed, new sights installed, all sharp edges removed, bead blast finish and some other little things done. The gun was always reliable and I did not have him do any reliability work.

One thing that stood out was that he did the work exactly as asked. For example, among other things, I did not want the front strap painfully sharp. I asked him to set the depth of the checkering where the tips were slightly flat. He understood my request and did the checkering exactly as I asked.

That looks great, and I bet it also isn't as abrading to skin as the typical checkering.
