Default Post-Occupation FN Hi-Power

I made my first purchase from Simpson Ltd last week and bought a C&R Post-Occupation FN Hi-Power that is in decent shape. It has some honest wear to the finish, and the action is nice and smooth. The bore is a bit dark with some minor frosting, but the bore still has nice strong rifling so it should be a nice shooter that's still pretty accurate. I can't seem to find a year of mfg for this since it's before FN kept "better" records. Some research makes me think 1951-1952 or so, but some other research makes me think it might be earlier. I know for sure it's between 1945 and 1954 but I'm not quite sure of an exact year if someone can help with that. The SN # is in the 55,000 range and from what I can see FN didn't start their records on their website until 70,000. Frame, barrel, and slide match and it looks like it will make a nice shooter. From what I can tell, the springs seem to be good, and the internal extractor works as it should (I have a repro internal extractor I got from Numrich, and a spring kit from Wolff just in case I need them) I did notice the right side grip is cracked, so I'm thinking I'll probably pick up a set of Inglis Hi-Power grips since it would still be period correct, and so that I can preserve the original grips from further damage.

Beautiful FN Hi-Power!

Mines not too far away at 55901. It came with an Austrian Police holster.
Next to mine on the shelf was 55902, also came with the police holster. But that one went to a different home.

Thank you! I made the decision on this to remove the magazine safety on mine and the trigger is much nicer now without the gritty takeup. Does yours have any Austrian markings such as BH or anything like that on it?

Congratulations on entering the world of High Powers.

As to your question of dating, the 2 with a partial box around it on the barrel indicates 4th quarter of 1952. Each quarter of the year had a different section(s) of the box. You'll find more date code markings on the rest of the gun.

See Anthony Vanderlinden's book called FN Browning Pistols. A must have reference.

Inglis grip panels will have a cut out for the lanyard, so will not look quite right.

PS: It is FN High (not Hi) Powers. When Browning started selling them as
Brownings, then they became Hi Powers to differentiate them from High Power rifle offerings. But FN always used High Power as the name.

Hope this helps.

Michael

Mine doesn't have any BH markings on it, so it makes me think it may be a commercial one paired with a police holster since the holster also doesn't match. It's a shame that I didn't get to see the original mags either as I hear Austrian Police mags were also serialized to the gun. If I remember correctly the Austrians did mark the front strap with the terrirtory the gun was assigned to such as my M1 Carbine was (marked LGKNO on the trigger guard). Anyways, I'm getting off topic..

I love these era hi-powers, with the internal extractor and the thumb print on the slide. Hope yours shoots well!

Perfect, Thank you! I figured that there had to have been a date code with some of the stamps but couldn't seem to find a guide. I appreciate it!

Beautiful condition! I only wish mine was as nice! I think with a set of Inglis grips (to protect the originals from further wear and damage) this will shoot great! I can't wait to get to test it out!
