Sporting Clays gun recommendations for women?
I’m looking to get into sporting clays as a new hobby, possibly going to competitive shoots in the future once I get better. So a question to women competitive shooters is what shotguns are best for people getting serious about sporting clays? My budget is about $2k, and what gauge is commonly used for competitions? 12GA or 20GA?
I’ve been shooting about 2 years with a semi-auto but my boyfriend wants to buy me a new gun (probably an o/u) to support my new hobby pursuit (better to have a pretty gun than a pretty purse eh?), going to demo a few this weekend but just wanted to hear from the experts. |

My wife decided on a lower budget than yours when she was starting out in case she didn't enjoy the sport like she'd hoped.
Here first O/U was a Mossberg Silver Reserve II, I think she paid about $600. It's a fine shooting gun, never had a problem of any kind. She has other much more expensive guns now but still shoots the Mossberg well, and it's always been her favorite since it was her first. Edit: 12 or 20 gauge can be used. My wife prefers to shoot 12 gauge. |

Send a PM to Savannah, here on Calguns. She's the best expert I know in shotguns for women. She posts mostly in the Calguns shotgun forum these days.
