Thanks for the chart. Is there any more exposition on the issue of "A REAL ID or supplemental proof of citizenship MAY be required"? Required under what circumstances? At whose discretion? What proof is acceptable?

Needed some self defense 9mm after new ammo background check implemented. Been to BassPro in San Jose many times to purchase ammo but first time since new req in place. From start of transaction approx 30min to finish. $1 to get process started after telling person at counter that I have purchased firearm within 7 years and haven’t moved. Went to separate table away from counter with their laptops. Got my DL with golden bear, scanned it in system, asked me race, us citizen, and place of birth. Within few minutes of that it was approved in system. Went to ammo section, picked ammo then back to laptop table to now do inventory of ammo purchased by count. After that back to counter to pay. I was charging my EV so wanted to give it a try on a Sat morning.

Why does determining if I’m allowed to buy ammunition, give me a headache? This state is out of control.

The chart states that I may be ineligible to purchase ammo in CA because I do not have a valid CA DL (ID DMV punched holes in mine when I got my ID DL). Does this not discriminate against residents from other states and, if so, is there a challenge based on my right to travel, especially if I cannot bring needed ammo with me? If this should be in a separate thread, please move it.

I am trying to find the actual text of the law that allows people to ship FFL03 holders ammo direct.

Any points in the right direction?

So you need a valid California ID to drive, fly, buy guns and ammo, to get a flu shot, to buy alcohol and cigarettes, gamble, but not to VOTE?

We need a flow chart to figure out which flow chart to apply.

I asked a attendent at Turners about this Saturday and she gave me some crap about having to had purchased a firearm in person from a CA dealer (no FFL Transfers) in the last 4 years was the only way.

I can't tell if she was genuinely misinformed or if they're trying to sell more guns.

Ammo Purchase Flow Chart.

It's officially become that stupid in CA

We might as well roll over to mandatory vaccines, illegal aliens, feces on the sidewalk, drag queen story hour and drug use in the streets.

Oh wait, we already have.

I apologize for the bump but if I am reading this right, as an out of state resident it is illegal for me to purchase ammunition in the state of California, in person, with a non-CA ID?

Haven't bought any ammuntion in a long while, so thank you for that. In addition to being informative, it vividly illustrates the complicated, convoluted and incomprehensible nature of antigun laws in this state.

I have a local FFL looking into this but, how do you import ammunition to an FFL when the 2nd party is a private party shipping you the ammunition from out of state?

The way I read this ammo law, apparently it does not apply to non-residents. Therefore, I can transport as much ammo as I want into CA and as long as I don’t sell it to a CA resident, I’m untouchable, correct?

As a non-resident, am I prohibited from purchasing ammo in CA?

Red face

HOLY CRAP!

Come to AMERICA folks.

I:

- go to gun shop
- point
- plunk down cash or card
- walk out with my ammo

Takes 5 minutes on a SLOW day.

Is there anything I'm missing on what a COE helps with?

The flow chart is awesome explaining what's going on behind the scene.
If you don't work in the industry or have a C&R FFL I really don't see why anyone would have a COE.
