Have another lever gun that will be needing a new home. This time a Savage model 99 in 30-30. Ser number look up says it was built in 1910.
I see people say they have a 99B or 99E, etc. How do I know what this one is? I am wanting to re-home this rig but have no idea of what to ask. Want to actually sell it...not try and eek out every last dollar, so actual "good deal" price is what I am looking for. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

2nd dibs.
Always loved the 99's. I'd have to do research to see which sub-model it is, been many years since I've been looking at them. To me, that one would be a great candidate for a fun shooter using cast bullets. Good luck, BB!

As with anything else, the 'value' is whatever someone is willing to pay for it.
Personally, while I like the Savage 99, I prefer the older Marlin 336C in .30-30. Just a quick perusal of some of the sites suggests an 'average' pricing of between $900 - $1,600; but, some can go for considerably more. You might want to look... Here... to confirm it as a 99B and whether it is an earlier model. Then go to the... Home or Index page... to explore things like... Dates of Manufacture. Hope that helps. |

I'll get in line. This is one of the few rifles that can maximize the 30-30 cartridge since, it doesn't need flat nose bullets.

Technically your model is a Savage "1899-B" model (and not a Savage "99-B" model).
Great looking rifle. Good luck with the sale. Value... $1,100 to $2,000 based on Gun Broker. Or whatever the buyer wants to agree to. Best regards, 870classic. |

I’m looking at a Savage 1899 article in the 1982 Guns & Ammo Annual by 99 expert Doug Murray. there’s a chart describing all the models from 1899 to 1975. the only one with a full octagon barrel is in fact the Model B. Says it has a 26” barrel. I think yours is one of the coolest taking a back seat only to Model C version with half octagon When pistol grips are on the gun that feature is mentioned. The E Model doesn’t.
this is a very thorough article that helped me identify 99s in 1990s when these rifles were piled up in pawn shops for $175 to $250. The saddle ring carbine is another favorite. Value on yours? Man, I don’t know. Maybe $800-$900. I forgot what years, but the model number on some like my EG is stamped under the forend. In the wood, I think but maybe the frame. ![]() Last edited by Wyatt Burp; 01-06-2023 at 8:35 AM.. |

I bet it'd go for over a grand pretty easy. I didn't realize they had gone up that much in the last bunch of years. The octogan barrel is awesome, and in my favorite caliber for them. I'm going to be wise and not buy it from ya though.

In my picture in post #9 above look at that top rifle on the right. That’s the one Savage put out in 1971 that resembles the early straight grip non checkered wood light weight guns of the old days. Purists loved this one in .250-3000. It’s the only tang safety 99 I’d own. It’s the Model 99 A.
