Default Pandemic Preps -- What?

So I read that 2019-nCoV is asymptomatic for up to 14 days (you have it and don't know it and are contagious) and may have an R-0 as high as 5...

I had gotten some stuff last time something like this was out (SARS 2009?) so I have a few cases of P95 masks and other PPEs (gloves, BSuits) available.

Preps for the earthquake and/or after Zombie Apocalypse. (food, water, lead, meds) are in hand.

What else is good to have? Med folks please weigh in on what would be useful.

Note: P95/surgical masks are unobtanium right now.

Stay safe my friends.

Patience.

Hand (and general) sanitation.

Avoid crowds.

Unless you are compelled into patient care/contact, what you suggest you already have should be plenty.

Emphasis mine.

Yep, thanks Librarian. I am thinking I will need to help out the multiple other households within my wife's and my family's in SoCal if this thing goes parabolic. They are clueless , not even simple earthquake preps...

I am sympathetic of friends & family in cases like this, but not so sympathetic that I'd put my wife or myself at risk.

Last round with ebola I bought a case of the disposable hooded tyvek water-resistant coveralls (these, Kimberly-Clark KleenGuard SMS Fabric A60 Bloodborne Pathogen and Chemical Splash Coverall , no longer available at Amazon), plastic disposable aprons, some goggles and some n95 masks; also got heavy duty rainwear, but did not get the boots.

I always have a couple boxes of nitrile gloves anyway.

Couple gallons of bleach, something like chlorhexadine for washing. (Note that 'bleach' degrades, but you can make your own with powdered calcium hypochlorite 'pool shock')

Big heavy-duty garbage bags to take all of those contaminated disposables, and probably a trash can.

If things really go pear-shaped, something like couple ez-ups and lightweight tarps to make PPE donning, PPE doffing, and patient treatment areas.

Some waterproof trays or large dishpans to catch the wash fluid from things you can/must wash and reuse.

If you want the real thing, see https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK230674/ and https://www.cdc.gov/vhf/ebola/health.../guidance.html (which I think I recently posted)

I stock up on SOMEN95 masks whenever I see them. During the local fires, they were in the emerald/tables for impulse buying at Lowe's...
I HAD some before that too. Better to have and not need things, than need and not have...
Ammo, food, water, etc. especially if one has kids.

We were all concerned about that with the bird flu (which I got anyway). Basically, unless and until the .gov shuts everything down, you are stuck.

You HAVE to pay the mortgage and buy food. Kids HAVE to attend school.
So.... there are your vectors.

The ONLY real way to avoid a real pandemic is to hide in the house until it passes - which can take MONTHS. So.... unless you can earn all your money by telecommuting etc. you are STUCK.

I dispatch to people homes for work. I’m SCREWED! Been wearing masks and disposable gloves when I knock on peoples doors. Getting some weird looks but I know how gross people are in their own homes. Trying not to shake hands or touch anything that might have a lot of other human contact.

Don't forget to get a splash guard to cover your eyes because I've read that human eyes are also a possible way to receive the virus.

Of course that was on the internet

.... so I'm just wearing two pairs of oakleys,

on top of each other.

I've got to ask the stupid question... Where are the vast majority of all of these N95 type gas mask being made these days ???

It is a fact that the 3M brand has a factory that produces 3M masks, of varying types, in China for the Chinese market and it's my guess that because of the lower cost of labor there, those maybe the ones people are ordering not knowing that they are coming from China to go out shipped all around the globe.

but maybe I'm wrong, maybe they're being made in Mexico or some other low-cost labor country for sale in the U.S. .

Could someone check one of their mask labels and let us know?

If the virus is also transmitted through the eyes will a mask be enough?

I use 3M and Makrite in all sizes to ensure proper fit. Shave your beard/mustache as needed.
Don't wear them like this... Makes the whole exercise worthless.

Default ok last week

Yep, figured it was ok last week, but may not be able to go back for a while. $40 better spent on an extra propane tank anyway.

No wife but then I work for 250 people with small boats the majority of which think are bug out vehicles. (NOT)

I'm not sure at what point I'd be able to ignore the boats and the wonderful coughing, sneezing, happy go lucky sailors that go with them.

Hearing repeatedly that P95 masks are not going to work.

Have UV Based HEPA air filtration system. Or several!
Have UV Based light wand to decontaminate.
Be prepared to wipe down surfaces with bleach or have bleach wipes.

Recommendations from a Medical Doctor contact:
- Stay home.
- Don't allow visitors.
- Wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands - for 20 seconds at least, and with soap (Don't depend on hand sanitizers - some are not effective and people don't always use them properly).
- Wash your hands before putting anything in your mouth.
- Nothing in mucus membranes (Eyes, ears, nose, mouth, vagina, anus: FULL DISCLOSURE, again written by a medical doctor).
- Don't touch your face.
- Avoid crowds, gatherings, clinics and ESPECIALLY hospitals.
- If you have to go out as this develops, mask, gloves, whole body clothing - then immediately launder/shower when arriving home.
- Wash clothes on arrival at home if you must go out.
- Prep for sheltering-in-place for a minimum of 2 weeks.
- Get it done!

As for me, I have ordered my kids to terminate orders from overseas.

I am stopping all orders from Amazon and everyone else at this time ('cuz the mailman or UPS, FedEx, DHL or other delivery person WILL be exposed to 100 to 200+ people a day.)

US Mail can be dis-infected with UV Light band.

If you can't avoid the problem, then goggles are the likely answer (unless you go with a full face respirator). Indirect vented or non-vented types. Often called 'anti-splash'.

https://www.drugs.com/cg/airborne-precautions.html

I've also seen pics of ebola techs with goggles, n95 respirators, and a full-face shield over those.

Since we are on the theoretical, using the same arrows for zombies and critters one will eat, as Daryl does might not be the best option... Unless cooking really helps...?

However here is the Walking-dead kicker, if they were all already infected (per the CDC) so they will turn after death, a bite makes them more infected to the point they turn soon after?
How about when blood/mucus/eye/scratch-contact just takes longer, I found to be silly-er.

These are actually harder-hitting than I would have thought:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/80-lb-Cross...g/272420508941
I got one for my son when he was about 10-12, and it was pretty cool, so I had to buy more bolts... and a spare stringing.

Plane loads of exposed persons still being flown to US at this time.

Better plan to shelter in place and disinfect.

Men 2 X more susceptible to Coronavirus vs. women.
