Nylon 66 for sale at Tuners

$500.00, wow. Back in the 70s a coworker gave me his (brand new but broken stock - a story for a different post). I wrote Remington, they asked me to send it in and they replaced the stock on warranty. I shot it a few times, couldn't stand it and sold it to my neighbor for $50.00.

Back in the early 70's $50.00 was about $500 in todays money.

When I read the title, just for a second, I wishfully thought one of the companies that bought some part of the Remington name out of bankruptcy was remaking them.

Because now that Ruger owns the Marlin name brand there really isn't much competition in the relatively low-cost .22 semi-auto rifle.

But I don't think that's ever going to happen, unless it's a foreign made entity.

I have an Apache Black which I purchased new. I'd love to find a nice Seneca Green one also. The Mohawk Brown is my least favorite aesthetically but they are all excellent and reliable rifles and a lot of fun to shoot.

When I was in Boy Scouts I had my Marlin 99 (my first gun - I still have it). Another guy had a Nylon 66 - it was a POS and wouldn't fire 3 rounds without a jam.

Have a 1963 66 and 76. Both great guns, but I really like the 76.

This thread motivated me to dig out a brown, 70s model, clip fed
Mohawk 10C that I don’t remember firing. Dusty and pin spots of rust and missing the magazine. So I ordered some parts off of numrich parts department and I’ll try and revive it.

I had a pick up at OC Guns just across the way from Turners.

Not sure what was wrong with his gun (possibly ammo it didn't like) but Nylon 66's were regarded as very reliable and were the most popular .22 semi auto rifle Remington ever produced.

As a testimony to their reliability consider the following from:

Does anyone know what a normal price range for these rifles is? Setting aside any rare variations with high collector interest.

That $500 mentioned above doesn't look unreasonable compared to what I see with a quick look at Gun Broker, but I don't know the market for these aside from what I can see there.

The Nylon 66 has a stamped sheet metal cover over the action. This cover has the scope mounting grooves on the top. The metal barrel fits into the plastic stock forward of this stamped cover. There is absolutely NO metal connection between the scope and the barrel. Enough said regarding accuracy potential.....

They do alright with 1inch scopes, but do not work well with the cheap 3/4inch tubes !

Looks like it might have been sold, no image, price or specs on Turner's website.
Had a friend buy one new, we all laughed at him for buying a gun with a plastic stock.

A buddy of mine bought a Nylon 66 back in the early 1990's. I too kidded him about buying a plastic "toy" gun. I had all the plastic guns I needed when I was a kid. I guess he was more forward thinking back then and now than I am...still love wood and steel. I forwarded a link to OP's post to him so he can now gloat over his misguided purchase.

I traded an old pocket knife for my first Nylon 66---it must have been shot a couple million rounds---inside was completely caked with gunpowder (still functioned fine)---took it apart to clean (NEVER< NEVER< NEVER take one apart!)---a nightmare to put back together, but with JB Wood's book was able to do so! Shot the hell out of it---was my "teaching" rifle for new shooters.
One day my old shooting buddy (RIP) asked me to sell him that rifle because he and his wife were moving to Texas and that was the only rifle his wife could hold up and shoot due to a car accident that left her with no strength in her arms. I didn't want to sell it, but he was my friend and I figured I would just find another one. I was wrong---they had become "collector" rifles and dried up around where I live or had stupid high prices! I figured I would just keep shooting my older Ruger 10-22 Deluxe Sporter or my old Belgium Browning 22 Auto take-down rifle and pretty much gave up lookin' for another Nylon 66---of course, when you stop lookin', that's when one finds you!
I was at my club range, when an older gentlemen asked if I wanted to buy any guns---he was looking to reduce his inventory---and there it was---a much nicer, near new Mohawk Brown Nylon 66 at a very fare price! I still have it---my wife somehow thinks it's her's, but I'll never sell it!

I grew up roaming Nebraska pastures with dad’s 66 and my GSD Thunder. The dog and my youth are gone, but now the Nylon 66 is mine. Always reliable and accurate.
