In Nebraska it looks like our side can’t get Constitutional Carry pass the state legislature so they’re trying to get LB 236 passed that will allow each county to decide whether they’ll allow CCing without a permit.
https://www.tsln.com/news/nebraska-s...lative-update/ It will make NE a confusing patchwork of local laws regarding Constitutional Carry. But I guess “part of a loaf” is better than nothing. I just hope they eventually win it for the whole state.

Utah Constitutional Carry bill, HB60, passed out of House committee on a straight party line vote and now heads to the House floor for a vote.

An AP article about the nationwide push for Constitutional Carry:
https://www.yahoo.com/news/states-ey...161400617.html Although it focuses on Utah it also mentions bills introduced in TN, MT, TX, SC, FL, IN, AL and GA. This is the first mainstream media coverage I can recall and surprisingly fair.

Paladin, once again, many thanks for your diligence and service on this.
I read the yahoo article, ok at best, but there was still some inane commentary in that article, like this: “The push in Tennessee came after the GOP-dominant General Assembly relaxed the state’s handgun law in 2020 by allowing people to obtain a concealed-carry-only handgun permit that didn’t require them to demonstrate the ability to fire a weapon.” ...didn’t require them to demonstrate the ability to fire a weapon...??? Concealed Carry Admin: so, you want a CCO permit? Permittee: yes, but I can’t demonstrate the ability to fire my gun. CCA: you can’t fire your weapon? Permittee: no, I don’t have a trigger finger. In fact, I have no fingers. CCA: well, by law, you don’t have to demonstrate that ability, so you’re good to go. Here’s your permit. Permittee: thanks, can you tuck it into my front pocket? |

Tennessee: Constitutional Carry bills have been introduced in both the House and Senate.
Notice how the Moms Demand Action rep say the Constitution guarantees a right to “own and operate a firearm,” not a right to “keep and bear arms.” https://www.wate.com/news/top-storie...hout-a-permit/ Link to the status of the bills: http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/Bill...lNumber=HB0018

HB102 passed its 2nd reading in the Montana Senate. IIRC it has to pass a 3rd reading and Concurrence with the House and then goes to the governor. The bill both implements Constitutional Carry and reduces “gun free zones.”

SB5 is the Alabama Constitutional Carry bill. The sheriffs association opposes it for “officer safety,” but gun rights advocates say the sheriffs really don’t want to lose CCW permit fee revenue.

South Carolina has both an Open Carry With Training bill (H. 3094) and a Constitutional Carry bill (H. 3039). Some say that the former will be a good intermediate step to the latter once residents get acclimated to seeing OCing. Others say passing the former will take motivation away from passing the latter. Either way things are moving in South Carolina!

The Utah senate passed HB60. It now goes back to the house briefly for them to agree to the senate’s amendments and from there it goes to the governor.

In the race between who will pass Constitutional Carry first, Montana has pulled out ahead of Utah. The Montana governor has until Feb 15 to sign the bill on his desk. After that the question becomes which state’s Constitutional Carry law takes effect first.

Been following HB60 since I moved here last month. Met with my rep before it had passed and he is a cosponser of it. Also messaged the representative that introduced the bill and he was hoping it was going to pass this last week. Looks like this coming week it will pass.

Fantastic. I'm still going to renew my CCW permit in April just to have the reciprocity in other states. Hopefully, even that won't be needed ina few years.

(1) I have nothing to do with the production of that map. I’m only involved with the CA CCW GC map.
(2) That map show where we were at the start of the thread, not where we are. I or someone else can make a post when the RadicalGunNuttery RTC map gets updated.

Yes, we need Texas and the rest of the south to go green and isolate the POS states on the coasts. Colorado still boggles my mind.

The state that is the most puzzling to me is Delaware. It is the only may issue state the recognizes permits from other states. I think that the issue with CO is that it only recognizes resident permits and only from those states that recognize a CO permit, but I may be wrong on this.

You're correct on CO. I wish a qualified plaintiff would sue Denver since: 1) They ban OC and 2) CO doesn't issue NR CCW permits and 3) CO only recognizes certain RESIDENT permits from other states So in essence you are a resident of the wrong state you are SOL if you visit Denver. One case (Peterson) already bit the dust because they only asked to get a non-resident CCW and the court basically did what Peruta did, that is not look at the law in totally and say that CCW isn't a right even if there are OC bans in place. |
