Practical magnification for a 9mm PCC
So, what do you think is a practical optic magnification for a 9mm PCC?
With aging eyes, iron sights are getting hard to use . I'm near sighted, and uncorrected, that front sight at the end of the barrel is getting blurrier by the day. I'm no Jerry Miculek who shoots a balloon at 1000 yd with a handgun. I can barely hit the small stuff at that distance even with a 6.5 CM bolt gun LOL My local range goes to 300 yd, but 9mm bullet drop at that distance is pretty deep. So, at current 9mm prices, I'll stick to 100 yd or less. Been using red dots, but I'm thinking one of those flip to the side magnifiers. I'm guessing 3x magnification is plenty? Yeah, yeah, you young bucks can hit at 500 yd with iron sights, but, if you're lucky, you'll grow old too. Like me

For older eyes especially the ones affected by astigmatism a scope with an adjustable objective diopter is the way to go. A value LPVO such as a Burris RT-6, Vortex Strike Eagle, Bushnell AR optic all work well for the money and will easily get you out to 100 yards with 9mm. If you're fortunate enough not to have an astigmatism a red dot with a 3X is a great option. I've found that with a 10/50 yard zero you'll be @ 9-10" low at 100 using 147grn 9mm.

Primary Arms has just released what they believe is the perfect optic for your stated application. In my opinion they got it right, YMMV:

I’m wondering if an optic for a 12 gauge would be a decent choice.
Good eye relief. Drops like a stone between 75-250 yards

Regarding OP's question, for combat accuracy within 100 yards a 1x red dot would be effective; I mounted a ROMEO5 on mine, and it's a lovely solution. An LPVO seems weighty and cumbersome for a pistol cartridge at any effective distance, to me. |

Unfortunately, I don't have any ballistic gel test data to share, but 124grn is real close using 10/50 zero. I always break out a 16" PCC AR as well as my Ruger PCC during classes and bang 18" steel at 75 yards easily with a RDS.

That's very interesting, and really useful to know. Thank you! I'll drag out my Ruger PC Carbine this week and do a 10/50 test and report back.

Their other prisms, 1x, 3x, 5x, and LVPOs, all have some BDC for 9mm in the reticles. Maybe not as perfect as the new "dedicated" reticle, but for the rare shot past 100 they'd probably do the trick enough. And I find the chevron center infinitely better than any red dot.
