Default Tokarev M57 Barrel HELP

I bought a m57 and the barrel looks like thereís no rifling and itís pitted. Is this barrel trash. Should I return the gun?

Did you scrub that barrel before you took the pics? In the first picture it looks like the lands are about the same as those in my M57 which is in like new condition. Is it the pitting that makes it look like it has a ton of powder fouling? Since mine looks like a new barrel, I would guess that the lands are somewhat shallow much like a .45 auto.

I see light spiraling in the barrel, that can only come from rifling. Clean the bore, take focused photo with diffused light entering the bore from the chamber (bounce some light off white paper back into the chamber). Post large photo.

It’s hard to take pictures of the bore with my phone but I’ll try.

My M57 wasn't handy but here is my TTC. Phone pics. Turn off auto focus / lock the focus.

The diffused light coming up the bore will create shadows and give contrast that show the height of the lands / depth of grooves, and also really highlight flaws. That piece of lint really stands out. You can see a spot of light pitting.

The inside of the bore is pitch black. I think I need a professional cleaning. Do you guys know of a good gun Smith in the Bay Area?

Jeeze, just buy a bronze bore brush of the appropriate size, a cleaning rod and some bore cleaner, then scrub the poo out of it. I have also had good success with putting a cleaning rod with the handle cut off in a drill and using that to power clean dirty bores.

I used this method on a '98 Krag that I bought cheap because the previous owner thought the barrel looked like a sewer pipe and to be honest, so did I when I first looked at it. I used a .45 caliber brush in the .30 caliber bore and after just a few minutes the bore came out shiny with just an odd pit here and there. Turned out is was just full of caked on carbon along with years of petrified dust.

I have used this method many times over the years since then and if there is a bore under the crud, you will find it.
